The Abandoned Hallway

PROPOSAL
Overview
My Project is going to be a 3D recreation of a 2D scene from a movie or a
tv-show and make it look abandoned. My aim is to make the viewer feel
like he/she is watching a movie or a video of an abandoned place that
gives a creepy feeling. The furnitures are rotten, the wallpaper has
started to fall off the wall. ceiling and floor has clearly taken damaged
through years of time. Overall the room is dirty and abandoned. There will
be moonlight coming into the room from windows and cracks and if there
is time, I will create flickering lights from old lamps to give a creepy
setting. I will add an appropriate royalty free soundtrack to set the mood
of the scene.
I have found a lot of inspiration from Stanley Kubrick, and have therefor
decided to go for a one-point perspective shot. There will also be camera
movement. I will run the camera slowly forwards so that the viewer feels
like the room is more alive. This will also give the models that I make a
greater opportunity to be seen. I might also add some more models than
what is originally found in the scene.
The reason for this is first of all for me to show off my modelling skills, but
also to give the room a more personalized touch. The picture beneath is a
good example of what my scene is going to be like.

Motivation/Rationale and Research

The reason that Im choosing this for my project, is because Im focusing
on what I want to do when Im done at the university, and that is
modelling. That is my strength in 3D, and I love it. Im going to enhance
my skills in modelling to make a not-realistic scene but stylize it to explore
more of the texture, lighting and modelling.
For my project Im going to make a detailed scene to show what I can do
with my modelling. I want to be working with either commercial or
modelling in the building/construction industry. I wont do the animation in
commercial, I want to be the person that builds it all, characters,
environment and many more. Thats why Im choosing modelling for my
project, to make my modelling skill much better.

Research
I will make a 3D recreation of a 2D scene from a movie or a picture, so Im
going to look at photos in books. The books that I will be using is Setting
the scene, Inspired 3D Lighting & Compositing & Light and Rendering. I
will also watch and freeze-frame scenes in movies (The Matrix, Inception
& The Shining) and look for pictures on the internet to find that perfect
scene that I want to model. Im also going to look for texture and some
lighting to try and get a good lighting scene. So Im going to research a lot
of lighting, sunlight, moonlight, fire light from Inspired 3D Lighting and
Compositing & Light and Rendering. Im also going to use Digital Tutors
about modelling old things like, books, chair, walls & more in Maya to get
it right.

TECHNICAL OVERVIEW
To achieve my recreation, Im going to use Maya, Mudbox and 3D coat. In
Maya I will be modelling the scene, as well as lighting and rendering. Im
also going to get that old feeling, I want to add dust and some dirt in my
scene, and I will use Maya to add that. For the texture part I will use
Mudbox and 3Dcoat to get that feeling of old or abandoned. I will use
Nuke, After Effects and Premiere to get some filters to get a feeling that it
looks abandoned. The rendering will be done in Mental ray.
