GRADE 6 SCIENCE BIODIVERSITY PROJECTS (marking criteria)

Neither of the type of projects is mandatory to any of the students nor to work in a
group or by themselves! Each student has the freedom to choose what fits them best
but once a decision is made they have to complete the project on time and according
to the criteria. The last day to change the type of project or the group with individual
work is November 12th!
Dear parents: Please assist your child in completing his/her project.Thanks.

A. Scrapbook (individual/group; a 4 weeks take home assignment; an


actual scrapbook can be used or a regular notebook-with blank pages if
possible and medium size pages)

1. a minimum of 10 articles should be included____/10!


2. each article is related to animals/environment and its easily understood by a grade 6
student____/6!
3. there are more than 4 colours included in the project____/4!
4. the project is neat and it shows effort_____/10!
5. the summary of 2 of the articles is written without spelling mistakes___/4!
6. the summary is written in the students own words___/10!
7. the analysis is well done and expresses the students point of view____/10!
8. the project has the students name and it is handed in on time(4 weeks maximum from

B. Animals presentations(recommended for groups of students); class time


will be assigned for practice; for best results students have to practice
during recess and/or at their own houses as agreed upon with their
families! It is totally their own choice.

Each group will present animals from one of the following groups:!

Criteria:!
1. video related to one of the animal groups assigned to/chosen by your group& done on

3. it contains information regarding examples of minimum 3 different animals from that
group___/9, habitat for those animals____/9, adaptations of the animals____/9(Spelling
counts for 4 marks; all slides/images are well organized and neatly done 10/27; 13/27 for
good info throughout the video)!
4. info can be easily read by the audience(large font)___/4!

Each student will have to use their own criteria for self-evaluation and for the
teachers mark. An individual criteria will be given to each student by our next class.

For group work each student will have to write a reflection(in their journal duo
tang) on what was the role of each member of the group (for a more accurate
evaluation) and hand it in before the actual presentation.
