Christ is the King! This is what we celebrate this

weekend. This is the most charismatic of the truths of
our faith. Not a violent statement but a charismatic
one. And I believe this is the centric message of the
encounter between Jesus and Pontius Pilate. The
argument Pilate wants to make is an argument of
dominance, as if asking Jesus, if you are a king,
where is your power? Jesus answered: my kingdom is
not here. This means that Christs kingdom is different
from any other idea of kingship. What Christ the king
promotes is a kingdom of love, compassion and
nonviolence.
Purposely, I draw our attention to this point of the
gospel. As we know, we have been witnesses of the
most horrific acts of violence due to terrorism, not
only because of what happened in France, but also
because of whats happened all over the world for the
last two decades. And what makes it most disturbing,
is that these events have been done under the flag of
religion and faith.
It is no secret that Christianity is and has been
under attack, both explicitly and implicitly. Our
culture seems to implicitly join forces with the ones
who explicitly try to exterminate any sort of Christian
cult. As if asking, once again, Jesus, if you are the
king, where is your power?
Naturally, we might feel inclined to answer back in
a violent way that can confirm with power that we
believe in Christ. We feel the need to defend our faith
and to let others know that we follow the true king.
However, we ought not to forget what Jesus answered:
If my kingdom did belong to this world, my
attendants would be fighting to keep me
What it means is that we dont have to be nervous
when culture and other beliefs do not agree with the
kingdom of Christ. I do not have to be angry if
Halloween does not celebrate all saints, or if the radio
or the TV or a red cup will not use Christmas any
more. What we do is we continue to confess with our
lives, in a charismatic, nonviolent way that Christ is
King!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Cristo es el Rey! Esto es lo que celebramos este fin

de semana. Esta es la verdad mas carismtica de
nuestra fe. No es una afirmacin violenta, sino
carismtica.

Thanksgiving Traditions
Thanksgiving is a time of giving thanks and sharing in
tradition. There is controversy over when this celebration
actually started and who declared it a holiday, but people
all over the world enjoy this day. Family and friends
gather to share food and festivities.
St. Joseph School is no different. Our students prepare
for a family feast by preparing placemats to decorate the
tables and food to share with their classmates. The entire
school gathers at tables in the gym to celebrate together.
What you do remember most about grade school? The
students and faculty at St. Joseph always answer that they
remember and enjoy the school feast. The Thanksgiving
Feast will continue to create memories.

Tradiciones de Accin de Gracias

estudiantes se preparan para una fiesta familiar. Preparan
