Coping Mechanisms

A well was digged out near Fr.

Vinces house in Sawa around
July 2015 to anticipate the
decreasing precipitation. The
water, however, too murky to be
consumed. So, it was mainly for
toilet flushing usage.

Due to water shortage, activities have either be called

off or canceled out. Picture shown below was women
empowerment activity in Sawa Erma. The organizer did
not completely put a halt on the activities, they mainly
adjust the topic/subject. Other examples are the
cancellation of Komisi Keluarga meeting and Pesta
Budaya.

inside their convent and put up plastic
wall to prevent dirt. The water was
very murky at first.

Sisters have to filter the water by using seasand

and some carbon/charcoal.

Pirimapun

Farmers used pumping machine

(alkon, local term) to fetch water
from the river and wet the paddy
field in Sanem Pirimapun

Pirimapun women collectively

fetched water from the dusun
across the river. They sold it to
the communities. One Bugis
man bought a jerrycan of water
for Rp 5000,-. Its too cheap, but
the women did not dare to
refuse. They blamed each other
for giving such a low price and
fought among them until night.
The conflict was resolved by the
kampung elders the following
morning by asking the Bugisman
to pay the water in reasonable
price.

In Agats, people have to walk miles

away further in land to get water.

water in front of his
