Reflection
This semester I needed to choose a class that covered the DV requirement under the general
education requirement for SLCC. As I have worked for Defense attorneys for the past 14 years, I
thought that this class might be a fun class to take. It was also my first attempt at an on-line class. I am
very glad that I ended up taking this class, as it has helped to give me a different perspective with
regards to how the Criminal Justice system works. It has also greatly opened my mind and given me a
broader perspective of what life is like for a cop. I dont think that I have even given much thought to
the dynamics that go on within the police force. I have learned what the meaning of brass and thin
blue line are. I have shared my new knowledge with others I know in hopes that their perception will
be changed as well.
For my term paper I needed to write a research paper on whether or not I believed that cops
should obtain a college education before becoming a cop. While there was way too much information to
condense into a 4-5 page essay, I did come to the conclusion that cops should have this higher education.
I have given my reasoning with some cited documentation to support my thesis. The following is my
term paper on the subject.
