Welcome
Welcome to the Marching Banana Slugs band. This handbook is meant
to inform both students and parents of the policies in the band. While it
does not have everything it is a great resource for everyone, and if you
have any questions I encourage you to email me and I will respond as

Uniforms
The uniform is a representation of our band and must be treated as
such. When you check out a uniform it will include a jacket, pants, and
a shako. You will be required to buy a pair of white gloves, black socks,
and black marching shoes. We will order the gloves and shoes during
band camp. Our uniforms are sensitive and require a lot of care, that
means when we are done with a performance the uniform will be hung
up properly and left out of the bag to air dry so it does not become
damaged. All damaged items will be assessed at the end of the year and
the student responsible for said item will be required to pay for the
damages. Students will also have to pay a $15 cleaning fee for the
uniform so that they may be cleaned at the end of the year.
While in uniform we have a code of conduct that we live by so that
we may show our pride for our school and band.

Uniform will never be half worn, it is always either fully on or off.

No swearing while in uniform, or in any band attire
No jewelry or make-up while in uniform
No eating or drinking, other than water, in the uniform

Instruments And Equipment

Students can check out school owned instruments for use in
marching band if they do not have one of their own. If a school
owned instrument is damaged due to negligence, will be repaired
at the expense of the student responsible for it.
Color guard equipment will be checked out at the beginning of
band camp and the student will be responsible for it all season. If
any equipment is lost or damaged the student responsible for the
equipment will have to replace it.
Students will check out a nail bag, a set of 5 colored chips, and a
flip folder to use during the marching season. Students are
expected to buy their own lyre for their instruments as the school
cannot provide every student with one. If any of the equipment
owned by the school is lost or broken the student will pay to
replace them.
o Chips - $1 each
o Flip Folder - $5

Band Camp Dismissal

Band camp is expected of all students in band, during this time we will
go over the basics of marching, work on our music for our shows and

parades, and learn the pregame for the football games. It is essential that
we have everyone present for all of camp.
During camp students will be expected to dress appropriately for
weather while still in school dress code and have plenty of water on
hand for when we are outdoors. Students will be required to have their
instrument, nail bag, chips, and shoes that are appropriate for marching.

Trips and Transportation

The Marching band travels to various locations to take part in marching
competitions. While at these locations you represent your school and
your band and you are to act as such. You will follow the schools code
of conduct and the uniform policy while at any location.
When we travel you will arrive at the school early enough that you can
get everything you will need for the day together, this includes uniform,
instrument, lunch (if you brought one), music, and anything else you
might possibly need. Every section leader will set up a call list that has
your phone number and how far out you need to be called so you can get
to the school on time. If you are not at the school by the time we are
scheduled to leave you will be left behind.
