THE SIMPLE PAST TENSE

TVORBA:
POTVRDNI OBLIK: Za pravilne glagole tvori se: od infinitiva + ED (npr. He playED
football yesterday.). Glagolima koji zavravaju na slovo ''e'' dodaje se samo nastavak ''d''. to
se tie nepravilnih glagola u engleskom jeziku past simple nalazi se u tzv. drugoj koloni i
takvi glagoli se u engleskom jeziku ue napamet.
UPITNI OBLIK: pravi se od pomonog gladola TO DO (''did) + infinitiv glagola, a dobije
se inverzijom (npr. Did he play football yesterday?)
NIJENI OBLIK: pravi se od pomonog glagola TO DO (''did'') + NOT + infinitiv
glagola koji koristimo. (npr. He did not (didn't) play football yesterday.)

KADA SE KORISTI PAST SIMPLE:


1. Za radnju koja je poela i zavrila u prolosti
2. Nekoliko radnji u prolosti koje su se dogaale jedna za drugom (npr. I got up, then I
had breakfast and then went to school.)
3. Za radnju u prolosti za koju nije tono odreeno kada se dogodila. (npr. We met in
Paris.)
4. Za trajanje odreene radnje u prolosti
5. Za navike u prolosti
6. Iza izraza I wish/If only/It's a high time/As if.. = SUBJUNCTIVE (npr. If only you
were kinder to her.)
PRILOZI PO KOJIMA SE MOE PREPOZNATI PAST SIMPLE: yesterday, the day
before yesterday, two weeks ago, last year...

1. Complited action in the past

I saw a movie yesterday.

I didn't see a play yesterday.

Last year, I traveled to Japan.

Last year, I didn't travel to Korea.

Did you have dinner last night?

2. A Series of Completed Actions

I finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim.

He arrived from the airport at 8:00, checked into the hotel at 9:00, and met the
others at 10:00.
Did you add flour, pour in the milk, and then add the eggs?

3. Duration in past

I lived in Brazil for two years.

Shauna studied Japanese for five years.

They sat at the beach all day.

They did not stay at the party the entire time.

4. Habits in past

I studied French when I was a child.

He played the violin.

He didn't play the piano.

5. Past Facts or Generalizations

She was shy as a child, but now she is very outgoing.

He didn't like tomatoes before.
