An mm SIZED IMPLANTABLE POWER RECEIVER WITH

ADAPTIVE MATCHING

SUMMARY

Wireless transfer of power to implanted medical devices (IDMs) has become increasingly
important as the range of application has increased and implanted size has decreased. This
work develops a wireless power link which achieves equivalent link gain to conventional
inductively coupled links for smaller application using 100 times smaller antennae.
For the implementation of this work a 9 binary weighted capacitor array used. C 2= 3.7 pF
ensuring that the 3-stage rectifier output 0.7 V. This voltage is used as the supply for the
array switches. The sign of Vk is found by switching the smallest capacitance in and out of an
array. They have developed rectifier with threshold voltage of VTH = 0.4 V
Developing this technology required innovations like analytical and experimental
demonstration that the optimum frequency for wireless power transfer through several cm of
tissue to mm sized antennae. This technology enables new ranges of implantable medical
devices such as neutral sensors and glucose sensors and smart pills.
