Let's Make History

Supported by

Chairperson's Address

Our Constitution was written more than a century ago. By then,

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples had lived in this
land for more than 40,000 years, keeping alive the world's oldest
continuous cultures. But Australia's founding document did not
recognise the first chapter of our national story.
Today, Australia prides itself on being a place of fairness but
our Constitution still does not recognise the First Australians.
We need to fix this and bring the country together after so many
chapters apart. It is the next step in reconciling our past. It is
the right thing to do.
Recognise (formerly You Me Unity) state "We need to fix the
historical exclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
peoples from Australia's Constitution. And we need to remove
discrimination - like the section of our Constitution that says
people can be banned from voting based on race".
The local artwork follows an art competition whereby the
Nyerna Reconciliation group and Yarkuwa Indigenous
Knowledge Centre encouraged the local community to submit
their artistic interpretations.
We hope you enjoy the exhibition and join with us in making
history.

'Kimberley Dreaming'
My painting titled 'Kimberley
Dreaming' with the red earth
of that area is symbolic to
me of the heart of our
country. Whether I am
painting a majestic river red
gum, arid desert scene,
rugged coastal area or a
towering mountain range,
the unique nature of
Australian landscapes bring
great pleasure to all lucky
enough to be part of this
unique country

'Purple Moon'
'Purple Moon' promises 'unity'
and new birth.
a) Unity of Colours- by mixing
traditional primary colours (as
used in the flags of both our
cultures), we can produce a
totally new set of colours- a new
beginning by uniting colours.
(b) The shapes used (egg-like)
reinforce this by symbolising
new birth.
