Extracurricular activity “ the United Kingdom of

Great Britain ”
Necessary things on the stage: a red carpet, a chair, a small table and one cup of
tea for the queen, two British guardians standing on both sides of the stage.
A board where the groups form the map of the UK during the activity. Each of the
four groups stick , step by step, while playing the roles, the necessary symbols of
each region. At the end of the activity the whole map including the four regions of
the island is done on the board.
A Moldovan girl meets the Queen at the entrance with plaited bread and salt. The
Queen is accompanied by the two guardians to the stage. On one screen aside the
stage the hymn of the UK (and the lyrics) is recorded.
All stand up and sing the hymn.

The QUEEN : Hello dear pupils! Hello dear teachers!
Thank you for inviting me here, at your lyceum. I am the Queen Elisabeth II, the
monarch of the whole United Kingdom. Do you know what a monarch means?
Pupils : A monarch is a king or a queen as head of state.
The Queen: Tell me please what main language is spoken in my Kingdom?
Pupils : English!!!
The Queen : I know that you study English too, don’t you? Now, I’m eager to
listen to what you know about my Kingdom!
England group
1 st pupil: Hello dear Queen! God Bless You!( bowing to the Queen) We know
that the biggest part of the UK is England. The capital is London and the symbol is
the red rose. (all these facts, represented in words written on the small cards, are
stuck on the map hung on one board aside the stage). We also know that each
region has a Saint defender. St. George is the patron saint of England. Let’s meet
him!
St. George: Hello dear Queen! God bless you! (bowing to the Queen) Dear pupils
I am the patron saint of England. I rescued a helpless maid by killing a fearsome
fire-breathing dragon. After that my name became a battle cry for English Knights
who fought beneath my red cross during the Hundred Years War. Today my red
cross is increasing in popularity and on April 23 rd can be seen flying in most towns
and parishes.
Dear Queen, we also know that you have a famous God daughter Princess Diana.
Let’s meet her!
Princess Diana: Hello dear Queen! God Bless You!( bowing to the Queen)
I am Princess Diana and I was born in the British royal family on 1 July. As a child
I was talented in music, dance and sport. I got married to Prince Charles, the eldest
son of Queen Elisabeth II and we have two adorable sons William and Harry. As
Princess of Wales, I am famous for my duties, the great involvement in charity
work, helping people and children affected with cancer and mental illness.
IInd pupil : We like your music, your singers and now I propose to listen to one
of them. Let’s meet the wonderful Adele!
Adele: Hello dear Queen! God Bless You!(bowing to the Queen) (the song by
Adele follows)
Dear Queen, I read many wonderful and interesting English books. I like many
British authors like : Lewis Carroll, Charles Dickens, Lord Byron, Rudyard
Kipling but J. K. Rowling is my favourite one. Now let’s meet the main science
fiction character of children’s favourite book, HARRY POTTER!
Harry Potter: Hello, dear queen ! God Bless You! ( bowing to the Queen) Dear
pupils, most of you are fond of reading about me. Who can describe me as the
character of the story? ( the pupils tell some important facts they know)
Pupils: Dear Queen, we, children, like to read very much, but we are fond of
listening English famous bands too. The band ,,QUEEN” is one of them. Let’s
meet one of its members FREDDIE MERCURY!!!
Freddie Mercury: Hello, dear queen! God Bless You! (bowing to the Queen)
Hello, dear friends! Now I suggest you to sing with us the famous song ” We will
rock you”( the lyrics are given on the screen)

Ist pupil: Dear Elisabeth, we also know interesting facts about other regions of the
Kingdom. Be attentive!!!
Scotland group
present a short video with amazing views of the region.

Dear Queen we know lots of interesting and famous facts about SCOTLAND. It is
situated in the north of the Island. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh. The largest
city is Glasgow. The symbol of Scotland is the thistle. ( All these facts represented
through words, images are stuck on a map shape of the Island, especially on
Scotland region)
The IInd pupil:( to the strains of Scottish music)
Scotland has a wonderful nature. In Scotland you can find the best places of a
superb beauty.
The IIIrd pupil: Even at night Scotland’s landscapes are spectacular.
The IVth pupil: Scotland is charming for its magnificent mountains, atmospheric
glens, picturesque lochs and fabulous forestry.
The Vth pupil: Scotland’s scenery has a reputation for being among the most
spectacular in the world.
The VIth pupil: Scotland is the land of mountains and lakes. The most famous lake
is Loch Ness. Everybody hopes to see the Loch Ness monster there.
The VII th pupil: As the other regions Scotland has its patron saint, too. Let’s meet
St Andrew!
Saint Andrew: Hello dear Queen! God bless you! ( bowing to the Queen) St
Andrew was the patron saint of Scotland and one of Christ’s twelve apostles.
During the 4th century it is said that some of his bones were brought back to
Scotland and rest in place now known as St Andrew’s. The blue and white cross of
the Scottish flag is said to symbolize the cross on which St Andrew is thought to be
crucified.
Now, my friend will present you the Scottish national costume.
Scottish dressed pupil: Dear friends, I’m wearing a real traditional Scottish
costumes and I present you each item. The pupil names each of the clothes items.

And this is the symbol of Scottish instruments, the bagpipes.

To this melody strains a Scottish dressed girl treats some of the guests to ready
made Scottish traditional pies.
The Scottish girl suggests the guests to admire a Scottish traditional dance.( The
dance follows)
Wales group
Ist pupil: Hello, dear Queen! God bless you! ( bowing to the Queen) We want to
present another region of the Kingdom, Wales, that is the land of song and poetry.
It is well-known for its musical festivals. The capital of Wales is Cardiff. The
symbol is the yellow daffodil. ( The pupils stick this facts on the ready made shape
of the map) The patron saint is St David. Let’s meet him!
St David: Hello dear Queen! God bless you! (bowing to the Queen) I am the patron
saint of Wales. I was the founder of Menevia in South Wales, where I was the first
bishop. On St David’s Day, on 1 March, Welsh people wear daffodils or leeks.
Both are regarded as being the national emblems of Wales.
Now let’s enjoy to listen to one of the most adorable singers, the well known Tom
Johns with his famous song “ Give a little love”
(The song follows) Three Welsh dressed girls dance as the background.
By the end of the song a Welsh dressed girl treats the guests to Welsh traditional
cake.
Ireland group
Ist pupil: ( to Irish strains) Dear Queen, dear friends, Ireland is also a wonderful
region. It is the land of stories. Storytelling is a part of the Irish tradition. The
capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast. The national symbol is the green shamrock. (
all the facts are stuck on the map)
The patron saint is St Patrick. Let’s meet him!
St. Patrick: Hello dear Queen! God bless you!( bowing to the Queen) I am the
patron saint of Ireland. I was born in Britain and I spent six years in slavery before
escaping to train as a missionary. St Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17 th by
wearing of green shamrocks the national symbol of all Ireland.
Ireland has also wonderful music and dancers. Let’s enjoy a traditional Irish
dance.

In the end, all characters are invited by the Moldovan singer Nelly Ciobanu (our
national singer) with the song “Hora” to dance in circle. (YouTube/Nelly
Ciobanu/Hora ) or you can choose one of your native singers.
