TC101: Understand the cultural traditions of others

America is the melting pot of the world. For this reason we must understand that we will have to
work with people who are cultural different from us. We must understand there are different
appearance, vocabulary, and traditions.
My sophomore year in high school, I became friends with a foreign exchange student form
Mexico. His name was Oscar. As we became closer, I learned a lot about the cultural
differences between Mexico and America. This had come to me as a surprise because I had just
figured that Mexico was just like America except for the language. One thing that is cultural
different is that people from Mexico give a lot of presents. Oscar and I exchange many presents
and one thing that I got was a keychain of a sandal that says Mexico on the bottom.
As a young adult, I will need to understand cultural differences and accept them. As a plastics
engineer, I will need to understand cultural differences because my coworkers could be culturally
different than me. I will need to accept their holidays and other traditions so I can understand
what they are going to be doing.
