Lesson Plan

Subject: Math

Grade: 4th

Unit: Division

Time Estimate: 1 hr.

Topic: Division using standard

algorithm & partial quotient

TEKS: 4.1 A-G,

4.3, 4.4B, 4.4D,
4.4H, 4.5

Goal: TLW know how to use multiple strategies to solve multiplication and division
problems

Objectives:
TLW:
Recall previously discussed division strategies (standard algorithm & partial
quotient)
Describe in their own words the steps of their chosen/preferred division strategy
Model regrouping in division
Apply said knowledge of strategy to division problems during whole group
instruction and independent work.

Materials/ Resources/ Technology needs:

Activboard, pencil, math notebooks, workbook pages 49-54

Instructional Procedures
Focusing Event: Math warm up on Activboard
Teaching/ Learning Procedures:
1. Students will begin to work independently on math warm up. Then go over whole
group.
2. Review flipchart over math facts and division strategies.
3. Students will return to desks and independently work on workbook pages.
Formative Check (ongoing or specific): observe students during whole group for any
misconceptions, monitor progress by walking around desks during independent student
work.

Reteach (alternative used as needed): review division strategies

Closure: Explain and reiterate that math may be done many different ways and the purpose
of learning several division strategies is so that we may find the one that works best for us.
Assessment/ Summative Evaluation: workbook pages 49-54
Modifications/ Notes: preferential seating, additional time to work on assignment, reduced
amount of assignment
