Equipment needed for the recreation of great
moments in sports

We as the Shepherd University intermural department need a lots of different types
of equipment for are event. We were able to use equipment that we already owned
so it saved us money and we didnt have to go out and purchase new equipment for
the event. All we needed to use was a soccer ball, a football, a soccer goal, baseball
bases, a whiffle ball bat and a whiffle ball.

Promotion Plan

We used many different ways of promotion to try and get the word out about are
program around campus. Are first promotional tool that we used was to make a
Facebook event for people to see and RSVP to. We also used the normal flyer around
campus for students to see when they are walking to class or in their resident halls.
Lastly we got are event in to the weekly student event email newsletter that is sent
out though email. We chose these strategies because we felt that it would give are
program the most exposure.

Budget and Pricing

We used a very small budget to put this event on. We only spent $25 to put on the
whole event that was spent on prizes and candy for are participants. We were able
to keep are budget down because we didnt have to pay to use the facility or the
equipment that we needed. Also because of the fact we didnt need to spend any
money to run the event we were able to make the event free for all participants.

Registration and Check-In Plan

For participants to register for this program we have them send us a RSVP email and
then we sent them back are registration form. They would then have to print this
form and bring it with them filled in when they check in at the event. Are check in
procedure was to open check in 45 minuets before the event and then this would
allow for walk-ups as well.

Goals and Objectives

Goals-

Our Organization has two main goals for our program. Our first goal is to
have every participant equally involved and everyone taking part in physical
activity. Our second goal is to bring knowledge to the participants about the
importance behind the great sports events and hoping to spread knowledge of the
sports.

Objective-

We have three main objective in our program. The first objective is to
provide equally to where everyone is having a fair chance to participate in all
events. Our second objective is to ensure that information is clearly presented in a
way that allows the participants to have fun while gaining knowledge on American
history. Our third objective is to run the program in a way that ensures everyone
gets the chance to recreate some of the great American sports moments and finds a
love for the sports.

Executive Summary

We as Shepherds intermural programmers would like to organize an event that

educates our students on campus of the greatest sports moments in American
history. Our event takes place in April on the intramural field. Our program is set up
to have to have students recreate some of the greatest moments in American sports
history. Our program teaches students of the history of the plays and allows them to
play the moment out. We have four main plays that we are going to be highlighting
in our program; the first being Brandy Chastains shoot out goal to win the world
cup for the USA. The second play would be Boston Colleges Doug Fluties Hail Mary
pass to beat the Miami Hurricanes. Next we will have the participants recreate The
Catch, the pass from Joe Montana to Dwight Clark to beat the Dallas Cowboys in the
NFC championship game. The last moment we will recreate is Kirk Gibsons pinch-
hit walk off homerun in game one of the 1988 World Series. Our hope is to educate
our participants about the history of sports and for everyone to have fun!

Venue Arrangements

To run our program we have been granted permission to use the intermural field.
Acquiring the field allowed only our program onto the field during the program hours.
The facility manager gave us permission.
Back-up Plan:
Our groups back-up plan in the case of not being able to use the field for whatever
reason is to move the activity to the soccer field.

Special Arrangements
Special Arrangements needed:
Our group has reserved the intermural field from 11-12 pm. If the field is taken then
the class will participate in the activity on the soccer field.
Possible Budget:
All of the items needed for the activity was free to use because it was Shepherd
University equipment. There will be a reward for the winning team, so based on the
prize we will say our budget is between 10-20 dollars.

Inclusion Plan

Considerations for students with a disability:
Our four stations during the activity consist of a football toss, hitting a baseball,
kicking a football and kicking a soccer ball into the goal. Depending on the students
disability, we will modify the event in whatever way makes it possible for the
individual to participate while keeping the general objective of the event still part of
the modification.
Possible Barriers:
Physical disabilities such as limited mobility or not being able to catch, throw, swing
a bat, and kick a ball.

12

Staff Orientation Plan

Explaining to each staff member how to run each event and how he or she are going to
recreate the event that they are running.
Each member needs to explain to the students or participates what the event is about by
giving a brief history and helping them recreate the events to the best of their abilities.

13

Set Up Plan
Setting up the plan includes
Preparation: Preparing for the event by acquiring the right equipment and by obtaining
the facility/field needed for our event to take place. Running through the event and how
the flow will run during the event. Making sure the time each event takes will not
overflow or be too short and result in boredom for the participators.

14

Animation Sequence
The event will run in this order:
1. Setting up teams, four on each team, with a total of six teams.
2. Taking three teams for each event
3. First event is the Brandi Chastain 1998 World cup penalty kick recreation.
4. Each team member has one try to try to replicate the goal that Brandi made and
the other group will take turns as goalkeepers.
5. The second event is Doug Fluties 48-yard Hail Mary throw to win a game in the
very last seconds.
6. One team will take turns throwing and the other will defend the offensive team.
7. Third is Kirk Gibsons pinch-hit home run in the 1988 World Series to win the
first game of the series.
8. One team will act as the hitters and the other will act as the outfield.
9. Forth and finally are the missed field goals by Scott Norwood on the Bills to win
the Super Bowl.
10. Each team will try and recreate the event in a positive way by trying to make the
field goal instead of missing it like Scott did.

Risk Management Plan

We approach risk management with a hands-on, headfirst, approach to safety by
anticipating, planning, and responding.
Our plan is to eliminate all possible hazards within our abilities.
Anticipating: We have identified and assessed all possible risk opportunities and hazards.
Planning: involves contingencies and emergencies, rules and regulations, adopting
routine and safety inspections, determining practices for releases, waivers, and
agreements to participate in programs and developing a comprehensive program of in
service risk management training for staff members.
Responding: includes methods of protocol such as, what to do first, second, etc. Being
trained in first aid and EMT. Evacuation options. Police and fire phone numbers. Nearest
local hospital/doctors and fastest route to. Contact numbers and supervisor numbers.

Evaluation Plan

At the end of our program, we handed out a survey to the participant to evaluate
their opinions on the program. The first question was simple, Did you have fun?
All 19 participants marked yes, they had fun. 17 of the 19 said they have never
heard of at least one of the moments; and 18 of the 19 said they have a better
understanding of the great sports moments after participating in our program. 15 of
the 19 felt like they had the opportunity to re-live the moment. Its fair to say our
organization reached the objectives we set out to reach. From the participants
responses, we educated the individuals while giving them the opportunity to have a
great time.
