Naeyc Standard 3: Teaching

Naeyc Standard 3 is Teaching. Teachers are fundamental in early childhood education and
they are required to be prepared everyday. Teachers are given the opportunity to teach young
children knowledge that they will carry for the rest of their lives. Early Childhood Education
teachers are the first to interact with young children outside their families.
I chose an activity that I completed about butterflies. Since teachers are required to
complete a lesson plan based on the curriculum. I was completing a lesson plan for my
classroom about butterflies. I planned several activities regarding butterflies. I really enjoyed
creating a caterpillar out of a carton egg box. This activity would cover art and science. Since the
children will learn about the evolution of a butterfly and the different stages they go through.
They will also learn about the caterpillar and how many legs they have.
I believe this activity ties in well with standard 3 and I would love to complete this
activity with children once I start working in a classroom. I planned various activities pertaining
butterflies that I believe children would really enjoy.
