    Butterflies-Egg Carton Caterpillar


    Learning Outcomes:
    25.A.Ecd Visual Arts: Investigate and participate in activities using visual arts materials.
    26.B.Eca Use creative arts as an avenue for self expression
    25.B.Eca Describe and respond to their creative work or the creative work of others.

    Materials:
    Row from an egg carton
    Acrylic paints
    Brushes
    Glitter
    Sequins
    Googly eyes
    Pipe cleaners
    Push pin on hand
    Glue
    Scissors
    Preparation:
    Precut egg cartons and poke holes with push pins for legs and tentacles
    Precut pipe cleaners

    Group Size:
    1 adult to 3 children

    Ages:
    3-5 year olds

    Time of Day:
    During Free Play

    Step by Step:
    1. Set acrylic paint, water paint and brushes
    2. Hand each child a row of carton
    3. Child will paint and decorate their egg carton into a beautiful caterpillar
    4. Place to dry on drying rack
    5. Child will add googly eyes with glue
    6. Child will insert pipe cleaner underneath egg carton to add tentacles to their caterpillar
    7. Child will insert pipe cleaners to add legs to their caterpillar
    8. Child will hang their caterpillar from ceiling (teacher will help).
    9. A few days will pass and teacher will wrap each caterpillar with green tissue paper as a
    Chrysalis.
