“Shakers” Musical Instrument

Ages: Preschool

This activity is beneficial because it allows children to create a musical instrument through art.
This allows children for use creative expression to design an instrument where they will be able
to exercise symbolic and sociodramatic play.

Supplies Needed:

 Cardboard tube
 Acrylic paint
 Watercolors
 Paint brushes
 Scissors
 Glue
 Aluminum foil
 Rice (inside)

Steps:

1.) Child will be given two halves of cardboard tube.

2.) Child will be given paint brush and paint to paint both of their tubes freely.
3.) Set painted tubes aside to dry for 20-30 minutes.
4.) Once, painted tubes have dried, child will be given small amounts of rice to place inside
of the tubes.
5.) Teacher will assist with closing each side of opening of the tube with aluminum foil
using glue.
