Standard 7: Families
Standard seven in the ten Naeyc standards is families. I chose an IEP example that I
completed with other classmates in CD 201. An IEP is a very serious matter that some parents
may have to go through if their child is in need of extra services. This IEP assignment allowed
me to familiarize myself with details of what happens in an IEP and how we should approach the
parents. Since it is a very delicate issue teachers should establish a good relationship with parents
so they can feel comfortable coming to them with questions and concerns. Teachers should also
be able to communicate with parents if they have any concerns and if they think their child might
need extra services. I felt that my IEP artifact was a great example of that Naeyc family
standard.
