GPA Doesnt Really Matters for Our Future

Nowadays people often make a relation between high score and success. If they get A
for their tests it means that they have high intelligence and will be succeed in the future.
People will find a job easily because they have high GPA. I think the relation that they have
been made is totally wrong. I pick Bill Gates for instance. He dropped out from Harvard
University which is the best university in the world and now he is an American business
magnate. In relation to this, I strongly believe that GPA doesnt really matter for finding a job
in the future for three reasons.
First, GPA doesnt has correlation with the general cognitive ability. According to Dr.
Pascale Mischelon, cognitive abilities are brain-based skills we need to carry out any task
from the simplest to the most complex. They have more to do with the mechanisms of how
we learn, remember, problem-solve, and pay attention rather than with actual knowledge, for
instance solving the problem. People who have high GPA sometimes cant solve their
problem and the fatal effect that they choose suiciding theirself to end the problems. For
example, in 3 Idiots movie there is a scene tell that a college student who is so smart but his
project is rejected by his lecturer and the next day he choose to suicide.
Second, GPA doesnt define someones capabilities. High GPA doesnt always mean
that the college students are smart. Many factors that can affect our GPA for example the
subjectivity from the lecturer and this case often happens in my own university. so GPA is
not solely obtained just because our ability to do the homework and the test well. GPA also
does not predict ones future job nor status in ten years. There are countless success stories of
those who achieved their goals eventhough they dont have good GPA. For example Kanye
West, music icon and celebrity, dropped of Chicago State University to pursue music and
until now he is having sold more than 21 million albums and he has won a total of 21
Grammy Awards.
Third, networking and soft skills are more important than GPA. I think it is true that
who you know is more important than what you know. Start building your network right
away and expand your network. I pick myself for an example. I get many advantages because
I make friends not only in my faculty but outside my faculty. I know many people and they
can help me when I need them. You are most likely to find job opportunities through your
network. Not only networking, soft skill are too important. Eventhough good GPA is an
indication that a college student can work hard and manage their time well, you need soft
skills to make you quickly hired and be successful in the workplace. Soft skills are the
everyday skills that allow you to perform well at your job like speaking, listening and writing
well. This soft skills are the most valued soft skills.
In short, i strongly believe that GPA does not really matter for finding a job in the
future for three reasons, which are GPA does not has correlation with general cognitive
ability, GPA does not define someones capabilities and networking and soft skills are more
important than GPA. Our success in the future is not determined by our GPA but our
perseverance and hardwork. Improve your soft skills and expand your network are also
important and I believe this thing can really brighten up our future.
