Reflection Assignment for ePortfolio

The assignment The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie
(1966-Present) was one assignment that I thought holds true even in todays society. We still
have people out there that are just as prejudiced, towards a certain nationality as when Alexis
wrote this excerpt of his early childhood school attending. It is not towards the Native American
Indians as much as we see the Muslims being crucified for what happen in 2001. It does go to
show that no matter what time period with live in prejudiced people will always exist in the
world. We will never be able to have it disappear in our world.
Their culture though does hold a big part of our history here in America. You can see it in
their art work that are in our museum. Like the ones up at the Utah State University art museum.
There were shields and masks that shows the diversity of what gods they believe in. Even how
much their religion played in their culture and everyday life style. You can get a new found
respect for all the Native Americans had to go through then and even now. Their language was
mostly pasted down through Petroglyph and oral communication. Now we look at the way the
Native Indians paintings and sculptures and interpolate what we think they were trying to past
down.
To evaluate the whole picture of what Alexis had to through. Comes from way before he
was born and how people though out history has looked at the Indian race. Even on a broader
spectrum that we as human look at all races, religion, and styles of life. Just because you may not
believe in one person way of life choice. Doesnt give any one the right to look down on that
person. We should be more excepting to that person life choices and be open minded to that
choice. What I have learn from this Humanities classes is that I do have my may of think. That
doesnt me I am right or wrong. Just means that every individual in this world will always have a
different way of looking at the situation differently.
This class is coming to a close and I have learn a few things that I can take away from it.
Tried and keep an open mind and understand maybe some else point of view. Dont judge on
what they wear or what they may believe in. Cause this is a big world and in the end we all have
to live on this planet.
