Rough Draft:

The song that I chose to analyze in this essay is I Bet my

Life, by Imagine Dragons. When asked about the meaning of this
song, lead singer Dan Reynolds states; My entire life, Ive been
the black sheep in my family and in and out of trouble. The song
is about my relationship with my parents but still celebrating,
through it all, everything that we've been through. Family and
close friends, there's nothing more important than that. We try to
see past our differences and celebrate the relationships that we
have today. This is a passionate song in which Reynolds reflects
on past mistakes and yet states that he would do anything for
loved ones. I Bet my Life is a very powerful song that Im sure we
can all relate to.
The first stanza of lyrics tells about initially going off on the
wrong path. Reynolds tells about how he began making mistakes
and frustrating his parents and loved ones.
I know I took the path that you would never want for me
I know I let you down, didn't I?

So many sleepless nights where you were waiting up on me

Well I'm just a slave unto the night

He starts out seemingly talking to his parents. He says explains

that he took the path that they would wish he hadnt, and reminds
them of how he disappointed them and how often he kept them
waiting up for him late at night. In saying Im just a slave unto
the night he tells of how did the things that many other young
adults do, partying, drinking, and getting into trouble.
