lower)

The structure of the fugue:
Exposition the opening section of a fugue in which each of the voices enters
with the subject or answer
Episode: a series of subsequent sections of a fugue, generally based on thematic
content from the exposition but never quoting the subject or answer directly.
Middle Entries: typically alternate with episodes and feature the subject and
answer but in different keys
Other concepts
Augmentation/ Diminution: the proportional lengthening or shortening of
melody notes with the effect of increasing or decreasing the pace
Stretto the overlapping of entries of the subject and answer to create
excitement
