Facilities for youth

Tijn, Lotte , Juul and Quinten

The main question is: Is your region a nice place for young people (6 - 22 years) to live
in with sufficient facilities for their free time? and the sub-questions to answer the
main question are:
1. Define your region with a short explanation and design a map of your region
showing facilities for young people.
2. Investigate the facilities for young people in your region (recreation, education,
culture, sport facilities etc.)
3. Which facilities are for free? How expensive are the entrance fees? Can young
people afford to pay the entrance fees?
4. Which facilities do your classmates use? How often?
5. Are there enough facilities for all groups of young people in your region? Explain
6. Are these facilities misused? If yes, how.
7. At the end of the article you will draw a conclusion, including a recommendation
for the local government regarding facilities for young people.

To answer the sub-questions weve interviewed 10 young people and 2 owners of

facilities for youth. Lotte and Juul made the questions and after that theyve
interviewed 5 young people and 2 owners. The other 5 young people were
interviewed by Quinten and Tijn. The questions weve asked the youth were of course
different than the questions weve asked the owners. The questions for the youth
were:

How old are you?

What are your hobbies?
Do you have lessons in that?
.Yes: What do you think of the lesson(s) you have?
.No: Would you like to have lessons or do you think its just for
fun?
Do you have to pay a lot for those lessons?
The questions for the managers were:

What facility are you owner of?

Why did you choose this facility?
Is it nice to be owner of your facility?
Is it hard-working?
What kind of children make use of the facility?

Soccer is dear to my heart, I was an active player and my

Children from the age of 5, boys, but also girls make use of the facility.

With the answers from our research we can conclude and answer the sub-questions
and the main question.
Sub-questions
7. At the end of the article you will draw a conclusion, including a recommendation for
the local government regarding facilities for young people.

1.

In Waalwijk there is a lot to do for youth. They can go watch a match from RKC (the
local soccer club) or play soccer themselves at RWB, WSC and vv. Baardwijk. Youth
can also take music lessons at Kunstencentrum Waalwijk. Youth also can make art
at Kunstencentrum Waalwijk. Youth can go to the Els (the shoppingcentre) too.
2. Kunstencentrum Waalwijk: Here you can dance, draw, paint, have drama lessons
and more.
Churches: You have a mosque, a Catholic church and a Protestant church.
Shoppingcentre de Els: Here you have several shops like toyshops, clotheshops
and a travel agency.
3. The shoppincentre and the churches are free but you have to pay for sport, music
lessons and make art. Its not very expensive for most adults but for youth it can be
expensive.
4. My classmates do soccer, basketball, handball, judo, dance, piano lesson, guitar
lesson, drum lesson and baseball. They play it 1, 2 or 3 times a week.
5. Yes, a lot of people do a sport or have music lessons.
6. No, they arent misused.
7. The conclusion is that there is enough to do for youth because much young people
do a sport like tennis, soccer, hockey etc. We recommend to the government to build
a better stadium for RKC because much young people like to go to a soccer
match.

With help from the conclusions of the sub-questions we can answer the main
question: Is your region a nice place for young people (6 - 22 years) to live in with
sufficient facilities for their free time?
Yes, our region is a really nice place for young people. In our region there are several
cool facilities for youth. Not everyone likes the same facilities but there are still
enough nice facilities for different young people with different interests. Boys and
girls mostly havent the same interests, so boys can go to soccer matches and girls
can go to dance lessons but boys can have dance lessons too and girls can go to
soccer matches if they want.
