Interviews

We figured it would be a lot more clear if we put the answers the people have given us in
one big summary! We did write down separate interviews with the 2 sport managers, these
interviews could be really interesting to read. We made 2 separate summaries 1 for the
adults and 1 for the students.

The adults that we interviewed:

Emperatriz, 43 years old, works at the office

Bachaa ,44 years old, French teacher

Hulya, 42 years old, works in the hospital

Misha, 43 years old, works at the office

Wendy, 43 years old, doctor

Adults
Our group has various different backgrounds so we think we have gathered quite a bit of
information and have gained a bigger perspective on people with different backgrounds and
their opinions on sport facilities in the Netherlands.

What sport facilities do you have in your area?

Volleyball, football, Yoga, fitness, swimming, squash and hockey
They are all nearby and accessible by bike, scooter or car.
Some are indoors and some are outdoors.

What sport facilities do you make use of?

Based on our answers most adults participate in sports that are played indoors like
Fitness, yoga, swimming and squash. Most adults do this to stay healthy, lose weight and to
relax.

What are some positive and negative aspects of sports facilities in the Netherlands?
Positive:
It is a safe space because you are under supervision of a professional that guides you and
trains you. Also the sports facilities are very hygienic, the place is cleaned everyday, it is tidy
and old equipment is replaced for new equipment regularly. Everything is nearby so there
are a lot of sports to choose from without having to travel far!

Negative:
There is a lot of distraction because of mobile phones and social media. It can be annoying
and distracting especially when trainers do this because you are paying for these classes
and they are basically wasting your training session time. When we work in big groups the
place can be very busy and you also get less attention from the trainers. It can also be quite
expensive.
How much does it cost to make use of your local sports facilities?
It is quite expensive. You need to pay for the classes and matches, equipment, and clothes
(shoes included).

Are the costs reasonable?

It depends, we understand the pricing because the sports facilities do have to pay their staff,
the cleaning of the place, equipment and these sort of things. But we do think the prices
should be less because everybody should have the opportunity to exercise under safe
circumstances (under supervision of professionals).

These are the students that we interviewed:

Mellisha, 14 years old

Mila, 12 years old

Simon, 12 years old

Lucas, 14 years old

Isa, 13 years old

Levi, 16 years old

Emre, 13 years old

Quinten, 13 years old

Jayda, 13 years old

Sidar, 15 years old

Students
We interviewed our classmates and also students from other classes. The people that we
interviewed all play sports, but

What sport facilities do you have in your school?

Many students said that everyone has to do P.E. You can also choose whether or not to do
basketball or dance after school. You can do those extra activities if you are interested in
one of those sports and want to spend time practicing it at school.

What sport facilities do you make use of?

Most of our interviewed students do just follow the P.E lessons. However, there are a few
students that follow the extra lessons I just mentioned.

What are some positive and negative aspects of the sport facilities in your school?
Positive:
Students often like the P.E lessons in which you can choose what you want to do in that
hour. Many of the boys like to play football that hour. And most of the girls like to play hockey
or badminton.

Negative:
Many students said that they play a lot of different sports during P.E. The negative aspect of
this is that you sometimes have to play sports which you don’t really like. Most of the
students want to choose which sports they play during P.E by themselves.

The reason students often don’t choose to follow the extra lessons is because the training is
after school; this leads to staying at school for a long time, which most students find a little
too long. So then you’re done at 6 and you don't have a lot of free time after the training. If
the training sessions were during school hours, more people would actually choose to do the
extra lessons.

Are the sport facilities in your school well maintained?

Based on our answers, most students think that the sports facilities are very well
maintained. The equipment is brand new, the place is clean and as soon as something
breaks it gets replaced.
