A second grader asked me if he knew what the meaning of the word economics was. The student was very clear as to what a good was and what was considered a service. It gave me confirmation as to where I needed to begin in order for the students to be successful with the subject.

I selected a second grader to discuss my topic with because I am preparing an economic
lesson for second graders. When I started the discussion with the student, I started by asking the student if he knew what the meaning of the word economics. The student quickly looked at me with confusion and was not sure of rather or not he could answer. I let the student know that it was okay to say, no if he did not know the meaning of the word economics. And then the real conversation began. I asked the student if he know the meaning of goods and services were in order to get a starting point for my lesson. The student was very clear as to what a good was and what was considered a service. He was able to identify the difference in the words. I gave him a selection the word soccer ball and getting a haircut. The student was able to tell me that getting a haircut was a service. It gave me confirmation as to where I needed to begin in order for the students to be successful with the subject matter.
