DC Battery Low and Charger Fail LED Indicators Mild Steel / Epoxy Primer Coated / Industrial Acrylic Finish Easy and low installations costs. With Over-Voltage protection (cut-off @ 150VDC) UNIT INSTALLATION 1. Unit is designed for Floor mounting, with provision holes for direct bolt-on screws on flat surface, This is to prevent unit movement on all angles. 2. Unit should be located on a separate room, with sufficient ventilation or on an area distant enough from battery bank so as to prevent acid fumes form entering unit. 3. Mimic bus display, which includes meters, LED Indicators and circuit breakers, should be visible enough to allow instant presentation of system status. 4. In vertical mounted position, ventilating holes on all sides of unit should be ‘unobstructed. This is essential to proper cooling during operation. Normal operating temperature of charger unit is 0 - 50 degrees centigrade. 5. All Input/Output electrical connections are made accessible by AC and DC terminal blocks located at the front of the unit. (AC Input, and DC Battery Output Positive/Negative). 6. All input and output lines should be connected to their respective terminals for proper contact, INPUT BATTERY POLARITY IS CRITICAL, DAMAGE TO UNIT MAY RESULT FROM IMPROPER INPUT BATTERY CONNECTIONS. NOTE ; Wire gauges should match corresponding current drain on each wiring connection and should be hooked up to terminal blocks with corresponding terminal lugs UNIT OPERATION 1. After the unit has been installed and all electrical connections properly secured, Activate the unit, simply switch ON AC Switch / Circuit Breaker. DC Output Charging Voltages should register on the DC Output Voltmeter and FLOAT/LEDI should light up, 2. Switch ON DC Circuit Breaker. DC Output Charging Current should register on the DC Output Ammeter. 3. Charging mode, FLOAT/LED1 or EQUALIZE/LED2, will depend mostly on state of batteries. AUTOMATIC FLOAT-EQUALIZE FLOAT CHARGING OPERATION is achieved through current sensing wherein batteries will automaticaly trigger mode of operation through charging current requirement, FOR MANUAL FLOAT-EQUALIZE-FLOAT CHARGING OPERATION ELOAT CHARGE - Normal and Regular Charging Operation. EQUALIZE CHARGE _- Periodically, and/or after a battery discharged (AC Power Failure), the batteries should be given an equalizing charge at a higher output voltage output than the float charge, This operation is to ensure complete charging of all battery cells. IMPORTANT: For maximum battery power maintenance, EQUALIZE CHARGING should be applied periodically, once or twice a month, depending upon battery usage, for a maximum of eight (8) hours each application. After applying equalize charging, set charger operation back to FLOAT charge 4, Battery Charger is current limiting at 10 Amperes, This feature protects the batteries from being over-charged and the unit from overloading 5, When charging batteries that are in half to full discharged state, note that it will take time for the DC Ammeter to register its initial charging current 6 BATTERIES SHOULD HAVE SUFFICIENT BATTERY ACID SOLUTIONS/DISTILLED WATER to have a good charging response, 7. Equalize/Float voltages and current limit are factory pre-set. Tampering may affect charging operation and may cause damage to charger unit as well as to batteries. 8. When de-activating operation, the following steps should be taken: a) Switch OFF DC Circuit Breaker b) Switch OFF AC Switch / Circuit Breaker ©) Disconnect AC source 4) Disconnect DC Battery cables The AFA Regulated Battery Charger performs Four Functions automatically 1) Provides power to any critical load 2) Charges the battery (Equalize) 3) Keeps the battery charged (Float) 4) Provides Current Limit The battery is charged at the maximum current limit until the battery voltage reaches the equalize voltage. When the current going into the battery decreases to approximately 5 amperes, the battery charged voltage is floated at its specified rating (for automatic float-equalize-float operation only), DC BATTERY LOW DC Battery Low Indicator is set at 10SVDC. When this is sensed, BATT LOW/LED3 will light up (blinking LED) and critical load will be automatically cut-off from the DC Battery supply. This feature protects the critical load from excessive low DC voltages and the batteries from total discharge. CHARGER FAIL When the DC output voltage of the unit goes above the equalize voltage or below the float voltage, CHARGER FAIL/LED4 will continuously blink indicating a charger system fail. This feature protects the battery from over charging and discharging, and serves as an early notice to user for immediate attention on charger malfunction. UNIT MAINTENANCE Ventilation is of prime importance. Check the area around the unit; be sure that nothing interferes with the free flow of air. Check for dust deposits, Dust of the heart radiating surfaces and contacts of the unit will greatly reduce the heat dissipation. Dust and other accumulations should be removed regularly. ‘The area around the unit should be kept dry. On occasions, condensation may form, especially when the unit is idle; this should be cleaned to prevent fungus growth. Connections at the terminals should be cleaned, and should be tight. Heating of terminals is a definite indication of corroded or loose terminal connections. They should be checked regularly for proper tension and cleanliness of contact area.
