Three new guanidine alkaloids, acanthamines A-C, were isolated from the marine sponge Acanthella cavernosa. These alkaloids were found to stabilize the tumor suppressor protein PDCD4 and inhibit the proliferation of cancer cell lines. Acanthamines A-C represent a new class of compounds that may serve as leads for developing anticancer therapeutics targeting the PDCD4 pathway.
