Historical Figure Journal

We have spent many of the past few classes learning about the
societal aspects of injustice now we turn our focus to the personal! In
this assignment you will choose any historical figure famous or
otherwise, real or imagined and write from their perspective on how
injustice affected them and/or detail how they struggled against
injustice. Here are some of the examples of possible subjects you can
choose:
Louis Riel
A Japanese-Canadian Interned During
World War II
Agnes McPhail
An LGBT person prior to 1970
Rene Levesque
A First Nations child forced to attend a
Residential School One of the workers shot and killed during the
Winnipeg general strike of 1919
Choose your own!
If you are struggling to decide upon a figure to write about, perhaps
start with a topic or event of injustice in Canadian history that is most
compelling to you and investigate further to find a subject you can
write about.
Your Historical Figure Journal should be at least a single, doublespaced page long. You will be given the entire class to research and
compose your journal and it is due a week from today.
Try to make your Journal insightful, thoughtful, concise, and
pertaining strongly to an injustice. At the same time, feel free to have
some fun with the assignment: you can add creative and inventive
elements to better situate a figure in a historical setting, or even just to
make for a more entertaining and informative read. While you will be
evaluated on general historical accuracy also dont be afraid to take
chances!
