Investigate the molecular pathway through which light energy is transferred to chemical
energy and dispersed throughout an ecosystem

Notes:
process used by plants to convert light energy into O2 and
What is
glucose
photosynthesis?
used by autotrophs
What is cellular
respiration?

when organism take in O2 and glucose and release CO2 and

water
used by heterotrophs

What is a
heterotroph?

a self-feeding organism
generate food internally and live off of that
feed heterotrophs
examples: sunflower, carrot

What is the carbon

cycle?

have to get food

cant make it inside themselves
have to eat something else that has eat energy
eat autotrophs
examples: humans, lions, dogs

the process in which carbon is distributed into the

environment
1. the sun gives energy to a plant
2. the plant uses that energy along with CO2 and water to
make O2 and glucose
3. an organism take in both the O2 and glucose and
releases CO2 and water
4. this then goes back to the plant and the cycle
continues

What is an
autotroph?

Summary: Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are used in the carbon cycle to make it
work. This cycle also consists of heterotrophs and autotrophs. It starts out with the sun
giving energy to a plant. The plant uses that and other things to make O2 and glucose.
An animal takes it in and releases CO2 and water which the plant takes in and continues
the cycle.
