- Plants are autotrophs, which means they produce their own food. They use the
process of photosynthesis to transform water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide into
oxygen, and simple sugars that the plant uses as fuel. These primary producers form
the base of an ecosystem and fuel the next trophic levels
- Cellular respiration is a set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in
the cells of organisms to convert chemical energy from oxygen molecules or
nutrients into adenosine triphosphate, and then release waste products
- Cellular respiration is the process by which organisms (animals and plants) break
down sugar in the presence of oxygen in order to release energy in the form of ATP.
As a byproduct of this process, carbon dioxide and water are produced.
- Cellular respiration is the process by which organisms use oxygen to break down
food molecules to get chemical energy for cell functions. Cellular respiration takes
place in the cells of animals, plants, and fungi, and also in algae and other protists
- Photosynthesis makes the glucose that is used in cellular respiration to make ATP.
The glucose is then turned back into carbon dioxide, which is used in
photosynthesis. While water is broken down to form oxygen during photosynthesis,
in cellular respiration oxygen is combined with hydrogen to form water.
