Date: November, 2014 Relation to Teacher Education Program: Written for ADED 32142 Where: Kent State (Principles) Why & How: This short essay was my first introspection on developing meaningful and appropriate assessments. I have chosen this piece because I have referred to it, and the reading it was based on (Wiggins & McTighe) often over the last year to help assess my own assessments. The focus of the piece is a centered around authenticity & validity, and how to judge these two factors in our assessments. The point on validity has been particularly helpful to me in always trying to ensure that if the students succeed in an assessment it means they are achieving the goals of the unit as they connect to the big ideas and over-arching themes.
