A.

Read the following passage carefully and then answer the questions that
follow.
Like the saying, 'All good things must come to an end', so it was in the case of
our beloved teacher, Mrs. Linda Choo, when she called it a day after having taught
for almost thirty-two years. Before she retired, she was kind enough to grant us an
interview for the school magazine.

Mrs. Choo began her teaching career at Sekolah Menengah Bukit Kayu soon
after obtaining her Diploma in Education from University of Malaya. Five years later
she was posted to Sekolah Menengah Batu Mas and taught there from 1964 to
1970. For the next six years she taught at Sekolah Menengah Jalan Perak before
joining the Sekolah Menengah Raja Muda staff.

When asked why she opted for teaching, Mrs. Choo said that she had always
liked the challenge it posed. Throughout her tenure at our school, she has strived to
improve the standard of English among the students.

Mrs. Choo has also served in the capacity of teacher-advisor to the DebatingClub and the Cultural Union. The 'Speak English Week' held once each term when
students are allowed to speak only English, was her brain-child.

She is full of praise for her former students. "In my opinion," she said, "most of
the students whom I taught were a highly disciplined lot. They had a serious and
positive attitude towards studies and extra-mural activities, resulting in good overall
performance. I personally believe that the recent spate of ill-discipline among
students is a cry for help. Perhaps these students lack attention at home and hope to
find it at school."

Her immediate plan is to treat herself to a holiday in Europe. "After that, I'll have
to adjust to my new life. It's going to be difficult but I don't plan to remain idle. I would
not enjoy that at all it will certainly age me faster!" she quipped.

Her parting advice to both teachers and students alike is "Work hand in hand for
a common goal. Remember, 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going."
