The boy next door connotes

props theory, with a a villain

who is an antagonist. This is
evident as the one of the main
characters who is male,
becomes extremely obsessive
over the female central
character. This also links to
props theory as the female
character is seen as the
damsel in distress- this helps
to build a good narrative
because the antagonist is
playing a cat and mouse chase
with the damsel in distress.
This helps to conform to the
codes and conventions of a thriller film as men are
stereotypically shown as the villain, and the
woman is shown as the victim.

The crush connotes props theory with

a damsel in distress and a villain.
However, this time the stereotype of
these characters has been subverted
due to villain being the female and the
victim being the male. The damsel in
distress is acted as the prize towards
the antagonist, due to having a stern
obsession over him. Also there is a
donor who is trying to help the damsel
in distress, however, towards the end
of the trailer he becomes a false hero,
and begins to help out the villain.
