Wynn Bullock was born on April 18, 1902 in


Chicago and was raised in South Pasadena,
California.

Wynn Bullock died at age 73 on November 16,


1975.

Start in Photography
During the mid 1920s Wynn Bullock became
interested in the work of Cezanne, Man Ray, and
Lazlo Moholy-Nagy. Which influenced him to go
out and buy a simple box camera and to begin
taking photos.

In 19389 he enrolled at the Los Angeles Art


Center School. After three years his work was
showcased in one of the Los Angeles County
Museum of Arts early solo photography
exhibitions.

Style
Bullock established deep direct connections with
nature.

Most of his photographs are taken in black and


white.

Why is he
important/unique
In the 1940s he conducted research to control
the effect of solarization and was awarded
patents in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain
for a Photographic Process for Producing Line
Images.

He taught advanced photography courses at


Chicagos Institute.

Influences for his works


He enlisted in the army and was released to
photograph for the aircraft industry.

He was influenced by the works of Man Ray and


Lazlo Maholy-Nagy.
