For this section I am going to talk in depth about the distribution companies

that distribute magazines of similar style and genre to see what kind of
companies will publish my magazine;
firstly the production company of a
magazine that will be similar to mine
will be the company that produces I-D
magazine, Vice, which began life as a
magazine before expanding into
books, film, TV, advertising and online
video, has acquired the bi-monthly
fashion title to fuel its burgeoning
digital ambitions. The company
intends to use i-D's 90,000 print
following as a launch pad into the
fashion market with an online video
channel. Vice Media, Inc. is an
American youth media company and
digital content creation studio
operating in 36 countries. It was
started in 1994 by Shane Smith, Gavin
McInnes and Suroosh Alvi as a punk
magazine titled Voice of Montreal.
Vice Media has recently expanded
from its Vice magazine, building out a
multimedia network including the website Vice.com as well as a network of nine
other digital channels including Vice News, a TV and feature film production studio,
record label, and a book-publishing division. This is the company that is responsible
for the publication of I-D magazine. In mid-August 2013, 21st Century Fox invested
US$70 million in Vice Media, resulting in a 5 percent stake. Following the
announcement, Smith explained, "We have set ourselves up to build a global
platform but we have maintained control." June 2014, it was reported that Time
Warner was negotiating to acquire a minority stake in Vice Media; among the
company's plans were to give Vice Media control over the programming of HLNa
spin-off network of CNN which had recently struggled in its attempts to re-focus
itself as a younger-skewing.
Vice media would be a prime candidate to be the production company as they have
really good financial backing from major conglomerates like time warner and 21 st
century fox. It is a company that is expanding massively in many different outlets
such as its own news channel. They have a good grasp of how to produce a magazine
as they have shown when producing their own very successful magazine but also
that of i-D magazine.

The second production company I am going to look at is the production company of

the magazine Clash the Company that produces this magazine is non-existent as of
late. Its magazine title was published 12 times a year and it had a circulation of
around 40,000. To advertise their brand, they link with festivals (such as RockNess
and Get Loaded) and concerts around the country. But at the minute the magazine is
distrubuted on the internet via clashmagazine.com. This is a unique magazine in the
fact that it doesnt publish physicaly copies regularly as it used to, it useed to prodcue
many magazines (40,000) and was published bimonthly. They changed the style in
which they distribute it to a website as maybe they think that they are ahead of the
times and that their audeince will benefit and expand when the magazine is produced
online for everyone to access from the comort of their own homes. The website itself
is massively popular as they still need to make a profit, becasue they dont sell
physiclal copies the webiste has to be very busy to make money in add revenue to pair
with the online price of the magazine.
This would b an interesting avenue to take for my magazineas i do share the same
beliefs and i do think that have the magazine avaiable online rather than having
physical copies is the future and way forward. But i would prefer for my matgazine to
be produced in a physical copy as it will be seen as not just informative but
aethetically pleasing and a collectable if you like.

The final institution that I am going to analyse is the one that produces huck
magazine as I can take a lot from this magazine as it fits the same style and genre of
my magazine. It is published by London-based media company TCOLondon, which
also publishes Little White Lies magazine. Huck is stocked by leading bookstores and
art galleries, including London's Tate Modern and New York's Museum of Modern
Art. It is distributed around the world and available in the UK, France, Belgium,
Germany, Poland, Croatia, Malta, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland,
USA, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Brazil. TCOLondon is a
London based production company that is quite l0ow budget. I could not find out too
much information about this company as they do not have a Wikipedia page and not
a lot of information about this company can be obtained We are a new breed of
Media Company. The heart of TCOLondon is comprised of two award-winning, global
media brands: Little White Lies, your passport to truth and movies, and Huck, the DIY
culture bible. Both have a loyal following of urban trendsetters in print, video and
online. We also work with great brands. Our writers, artists, filmmakers and
photographers craft content marketing, or native advertising, that connects our
clients to bigger human stories. Is about the best I could get and is a quote from
their website. But what I can gather is that the company is, as Ive already said, low
budget but Is growing in size and aspires to make huck magazine a less sort of
alternative magazine but break into the mainstream category. I believe that this can
be achieved as they styling of their magazine is up there with the best indie
magazines like clash and i-D.
This company would also be a good candidate because they are again expanding and
have a loyal fan base but also my magazine is sort of based from most of their work
in DIY magazine and huck.
