Wood Points - Sour

Also since the astringent property is the ability to gather

things that are scattered, it is good to use these points
when heat is excessive. This means that wood points can
be useful for Heat Patterns even in cases of Liver
Deficiency. What happens when we disperse a wood point?
Dispersing a wood point has the opposite of an astringent
effect. Therefore, when things are too contracted (i.e. cases
of Liver Excess), these points can be used for dispersion.
Considering the point selection principles in the 69th
chapter of the Nanjing from this perspective, when the
wood point is tonified in cases of Liver Deficiency, it should
be when Heat is excessive. That is, when the pulse is rapid
or flooding. Of course, in cases of Liver Excess, the point
should be dispersed.
There is a passage in the classics that says, Bending and being un- able to straighten is
Liver Excess. Moxa 3-4 cones on Liver 1
Fire Points - Bitter
In terms of taste, the fire points have the same effect as the bitter taste. Bitterness has a
cooling effect. Therefore fire points are used when there is a need to tonify as well as
eliminate Heat. For example, LU10 is tonified when there is Heat in the Lung meridian;
KI2 is tonified when Heart Fire is excessive in cases of Kidney Deficiency. The fire points
of the Liver and Pericardium, however, do not work this way. The Liver meridian tends to
take on Heat and become excess, so LV2 must be dispersed in cases of Liver Excess. The
Pericardium meridian is where the Yang Qi of the Heart manifests, and Yang Qi will
become excess if its fire point is tonified. This is why, PC8 is tonified in cases of Spleen
Deficiency. HT8 does not work to raise the Yang Qi in the same way. When Excess Heat in
the Heart leads to Excess Heat in the Pericardium, however, there are cases when I
sedate PC8. This is the same as using this point for the symptom heat in the body
caused by External Heat, and concurs with the statement that Ying Spring points control
heat in the body.
Considering this matter further, it can be said that tonification in the Nanjing is to
increase Yang Qi and dispersion is to increase Yin Qi. I will discuss this in more detail
later, but tonification is, of course, to increase Qi. Yet dispersion viewed from another
perspective is also a form of tonification in that Yin Qi is increased.
