Research Paper IdeasTo Turn in by the End of Class

1) Research Question:

2) Null Hypothesis:

3) Alternate Hypothesis (to be accepted if the null hypothesis is falsified.)

4) The logic:

5) Big, or general, rationale:

6) Smaller, or more specific, rationale:

7) What sorts of variables will you need to control for? How will you do
this?

Each group will be presenting these questions to the class next weekvery
informal presentations, to get feedback on their questions, hypotheses, and
logic.
Develop 2-3 questions. Each question needs to be very specificname the
islands involved, the species involved, vegetation, rainfall, etc.
For your data, search the (combined) data set, which has over 7000 birds in
it. To make sure that you have enough birds for a good statistical sample,
you will need at least 10 birds. If you have a really great question and not

enough birds, then modify the question somewhat (i.e., choose a different
island), so you have enough birds to use for analysis.
