GRADE 12 ORAL HOMEOSTASIS PROJECTS ‘Your group will be made up of two teams. One team is the A team and the other is the B team. Both teams must be able to present the material of your project. On the first presentation day, your group team A will present while members of the team B will rotate to the other groups and lear the other information. On the second day, your group will switch roles and the B team will present while the A team will rotate. You will only have a ten minute time interval to complete your presentation, so keep it concise, informative and to the point. I will be grading each group and team so make sure that you do a high quality presentation. Remember, I want a presentation that shows that you know your material (don’t read anything) and that you can communicate it very effectively The presentation days will be and PRESENTATION TOPICS AND OBJECTIVES Kidney SUPPLIES Includes human model of excretory system and kidney. You will need to provide additional diagrams of the excretory system OBJECTIVES Rotating students will leam the following from your presentation -state the various functions of the kidney -state the blood vessels important to the kidney and how they work describe the functions of all of the excretory structures understand the glomerulus and the nephron and how they work = list substances that enter the nephron and substances that do not leave the bloodstream -understand the hormone involved in controlling the reabsorption of water in to the bloodstream -be able to draw and label a diagram of the kidney and the associated structures of the urinary system describe at least one disorder or disease of the kidney and its treatment Ovarian Cycle SUPPLIES Includes models of female and male reproductive systems Make up your own manipulative board shapes for this presentation OBJECTIVES Rotating students will learn the following from your presentation -know all the structures of the female and male reproductive anatomy state from memory the hormones involved in the cycle -know where each hormone is produced and what its target organ is -be able to diagram and explain the entire ovarian cycle -be able to explain what happens to the cycle in pregnancy -be able to explain at least one disease or disorder of the female reproductive system Brain SUPPLIES Includes a specimen, a model and kits OBJECTIVES Rotating students will learn the following from your presentation ~ state and sketch the major lobes of the brain identify the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, medulla, pons, thalamus, corpus callosum, hypothalamus and pituitary gland functions and locations. -state the components of the brain meninges -understand the differences between gyrus and sulcus, identify these on a brain model, and explain the reason the brain is so convoluted on the surface identify the location of the brain longitudinal fissure and ho w the two sides of the brain are connected. - identify where visual, auditory, olfactory tactile and memory information is processed understand at least one disease or disorder associated with the brain Eye SUPPLIES: Includes a specimen a model and kits OBJECTIVES, Rotating students will learn the following from your presentation -the location function and names all the structures of the eye be able to sketch and label a simple diagram of the eye - understand the differences between rods and cones and their arrangement on the retina (ex.fovea) -locate the optic nerve and how it connects to the brain ~understand the concept of the blind spot understand the differences between myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia, glaucoma cataracts and how they can be corrected Ear SUPPLIES Includes a model and kit OBJECTIVES Rotating students will learn the following from your presentation ~be able to sketch the locations of the outer middle and inner ear -know the purpose of the eustachian tube - state the three small bones(ossicles) of the middle ear and explain their purpose and their interaction with the oval and round window of the cochlea -know the location and function of the pinna, auditory canal and tympanic membrane (eardrum) understand the function of the cochlea ~ hair cells, basilar membrane and organ of Corti understand the funetion of the semicircular canals, utricle, and saccule in balance and orientation - explain how hearing loss occurs from loud noise STUDENT EVALUATION FOR HOMEOSTASIS PROJECTS When complete — submit directly to the teacher My name.
