rulers in Ancient Egyptian history by
comparing and contrasting different pharaohs.

Vocabulary
dynasty - a line of rulers from the same family
monarchy - government ruled by a king or queen
sphinx - monument with the face of a pharaoh and the
body of a lion (also a figure in Egyptian mythology)
regent - one who officially governs in a rulers place
oracle - one believed to be able to predict the future
obelisk - a tall, thin, four-sided stone monument, usually
rising to a pointed pyramid-shaped top

Egyptian Pharaohs
Pharaohs were rulers in Ancient Egypt. They
were not only considered kings, but they were
considered gods or the child of one.
The Egyptian god-kings were very powerful!
Each served as head of the government, leader of
the armies, and chief priest of the kingdom.
Power was usually passed from father to oldest
son.
