Job Shadow at FORD: A very helpful experience.

On January 18, 2016, was my scheduled Job Shadow at Ford Motor Company. Ford Motor
Company is an American automaker and the world's fifth largest automaker based on worldwide
vehicle sales. Ford would go on to become one of the largest and most profitable companies in
the world. The largest family-controlled company in the world, the Ford Motor Company has
been in continuous family control for over 110 years.
A life of sales person is very challenging job yet has great advantages. As I spent my hours with
Ms. Piloton a front row in sales, I interviewed her about her job and etc. I also observed
everything shes doing especially the sales call. Unluckily, she didnt allow me to participate one
of her sales call because everyone she called at that day are very paramount people. So what I
did is just listen and observe. She loves her present job at Ford as a sales person as what she told
me because in Sales you have unlimited potentials, it will always base how you work hard in
sales in exchange of that youll get commissions. Theres an disadvantage if you work very very
hard in sale because the more you work hard the it will be stressful because its her job to give or
meet the demand of the clients or the customers excellent quality of service. Some of the clients
are very demanding so it adds up the stress. Her monthly salary based on how many units she
sold and plus the commissions. The clients she handled are 30% walk-in and 70% through sales
call and online sales. That is the reason why during my Job Shadow I didnt witnessed any walk
in clients but rather through phone calls. She called like 16 people through phone
communication, 9 people declined to come to Ford to check out the cars available or new
released and 7 accepted and set a date to visit Ford. As a checked her clients name, majority are
muslims and some of them I even know them back at Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

What I learned is that the hardest thing about sales is learning how to handle repudiation, i.e. not
take it personally and move on. Also, there is a constant pressure to perform, hunt and bring the
bacon back to the firm which may or may not appreciate your effort. It takes certain type of
super-resilient personality. Sales are a very challenging field. I believe the hardest thing about
sales is the waiting. When you are in this area, you should have patience. You see, one cannot
expect the prospect to make decisions immediately. There is plenty of hard work. Most sales
people feel that prospecting is the most difficult part of their job, Sound reasonable: filling the
pipeline with new leads is never easy. Some time ago the only way to generate leads was cold
calling. Now lots of thing changed, in prospecting as well. With the rise of social media a sales
person can find potential clients via social sites like Facebook.

Dear Ms. Piloton,
I am a business student from Xavier University- Ateneo de Cagayan, part of our midterm
requirement is the Job Shadow where student will observe a business sales professional. I chose
your company because I always go at Ford with my dad, while his making some transactions, I
observed how the front liners talk to those walk in to check some cars. It fascinated me how you
handle your clients.
I'm asking for your permission if it is okay for you to accept my letter for the job shadow.
This job shadow is only for 5 hours. It is an honor for me if I can participate in one of your
activities especially when you handle your daily customers or when you call through phone and
talk to your prospects. It will be a good experience and an advantage for me.
Is it okay if my job shadow date will on January 16, 2016 (Saturday)? I'll be waiting for your
confirmation. Thank you and have a good day!

Sincerly,
Renee Anhonette M. Cabahug

Biograhy

Julie Mae D. Piloton is a Sales Consultant, quality care accredited dealer. Prior to being the sales
consultant at Ford, she handled paper works and a document at Ford for example is the one to be
signed like the sales invoice, she was once a sales coordinator. She was also assigned at the
marketing department where she was in charge for the billboards and some marketing areas until
she became a sales agent. She loves her job being part of the front liners because her salary is
base on how hard she work to reach her quota or more, no fixed salary.
Julies greatest strengths are her creativity and drive. She thrives on challenges, particularly in
reaching her quotas and earning more by selling more cars in a month. She was recruited in
different motor company such as Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota but she remained at Ford for the
reason she earned a lot at Ford than any of those motor company recruiting her. She was also
promoted at Mazda higher than a sales consultant but she declined also because in her position,
she gains a lot per month mostly 90-100k per month depending on the sales of cars. She is one of
the best assets of Ford when it comes to selling cars per month. She is really determined to reach
excellence in her job. She is one of the example of a hardworking sales person.

Company Background:
Ford Motor Company is an American automaker and the world's fifth largest automaker based
on worldwide vehicle sales. Based in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, the automaker
was founded by Henry Ford, on June 16, 1903. Ford Motor Company would go on to become
one of the largest and most profitable companies in the world, as well as being one of the few to
survive the Great Depression. The largest family-controlled company in the world, the Ford
Motor Company has been in continuous family control for over 110 years. Ford now
encompasses two brands: Ford and Lincoln. Ford once owned 5 other luxury brands: Volvo,
Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Mercury. Over time those brands were sold to other
companies and Mercury was discontinued.
Henry Ford built his first automobile, which he called a quadricycle, at his home in Detroit in
1896. His initial foray into automobile manufacturing was the Detroit Automobile Company,
founded in 1899. The company foundered, and in 1901 was reorganized as the Henry Ford
Company. In March 1902, after falling out with his financial backers, Ford left the company with
the rights to his name and 900 dollars. At 9:30 in the morning on this day in 1903, Henry Ford
and other prospective stockholders in the Ford Motor Company meet in Detroit to sign the
official paperwork required to create a new corporation. Twelve stockholders were listed on the
forms, which were signed, notarized and sent to the office of Michigans secretary of state. The
company was officially incorporated the following day, when the secretary of states office
received the articles of association.
Ford had built his first gasoline-powered vehiclewhich he called the Quadricyclein a workshop
behind his home in 1896, while he was working as the chief engineer for the main plant of the
Edison Illuminating Company in Detroit. He made two unsuccessful attempts to start a company
to manufacture automobiles before 1903. A month after the Ford Motor Company was
established, the first Ford car was assembled at a plant on Mack Avenue in Detroit .
