Forest Glen PTO Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 6:37 p.m. by PTO President Melissa Arts.
Presidents Report:
Melissa thanked all current PTO members for their time.
Secretarys Report:
Motion to approve March and Aprils minutes: Jennifer Gaecke, seconded by Brenda Amond.
Motion carries.
Treasurers Report:
Lynn is not at meeting. Copies of the treasurer report were handed out to everyone to review.
Motion to approve treasurers report: Kathy Schommer, seconded by Keri Steffens. Motion
carries.
Melissa talked about the changes made to the 2015-16 budget.
The 2015-16 budget is as follows:

Melissa will ask Lynn to add the line item of Library renovation to the special project line in the
budget.
Motion to pass the budget by Jennifer Gaecke, seconded by Brianna Knox. Motion carries.
Principals Report:
Angie welcomed Brian Nicol, Communications and Development Coordinator for HowardSuamico School District, who is here to talk about the Upward Together campaign. This is a
Howard-Suamico Education Campaign in which the goal is to raise $1 million to enrich

students experience, $1 million to expand faculty and staff resources and $1.5 million to
enhance the facilities. Currently, there is $1.1 million dollars already raised. Families can
donate online at www.GiveToHSSD.weebly.com . You can also donate online through the
website Pirate Nation which is for alumni, community members, friends, family, and supporters
of the Bay Port Pirates (and those aspiring to be future Pirates). The Nation and its members
work to support the Pirates as well as each other. In the Nation you will find news and blog
articles, information about upcoming Nation events, job boards, Nation projects, exclusive spirit
wear and opportunities to connect.

Badger testing - 4th graders are finishing up their testing.


District Wide Grades 2-4 MAP Testing begin May 11 June 5
May 20th is Bazinga Day in which teachers do running record assessments for K-1 grades.
April 27th May 22nd is the District Wide Grades K-2 PALS Testing
Friday, May 8th - Forest Glen Tours and Open House. The tours and open house are for
kindergarten families to come and check out the school, visit kindergarten classrooms, meet
staff and see what school will be like. The current 4th graders are leading the tour. Parent
orientation will be on Aug. 19th from 6 7.
Tuesday, May 12th - Bike to school day for Forest Glen.
Wednesday, May 13th Volunteer Luncheon from 11:00 1:15 p.m.
Kindergarten programs are starting next week.
There are many field trips coming up.
Friday, May 15th - Early Release at 1:20 p.m.
Friday, May 15th Book Fair distribution.
Monday, May 25th No School
June 8th End of year carnival. Volunteers will be needed.
Tuesday, June 9th Early release and last day school. Memory book signing that day as well
and report cards will be available for viewing.
Wednesday, June 10th Construction on the Forest Glen office area will start.
Pupil Service area will be used for classroom space for speech therapists and ELL and the
literacy interventionist.
Class lists will be emailed to families in mid Aug.
PTO meeting dates for next year are: Sept. 8th, Oct. 6th, Nov. 3rd (election night), Jan 5th, Feb.
2nd, March 1st, April 5th and May 3rd. There will be no meetings in December and June.
Angie thanked PTO for their time and effort in working tirelessly in raising money for Forest
Glen and mentioned the many things that PTO has done for the school: funding field trip
transportation for 500 students, supplied teachers with thousands of books, supplied students
with free books, changing marquee sign, funding the cost for bouncers, creating a yearbook,
meals for conferences, organizing the Spring carnival, providing gift cards to the teachers as a
thank you for their work, providing families with snacks at concerts and art shows, clothing
sales, publishing center requests, creating the memory book and planning family events.

Committees:
Apparel: Kathy stated Holly Basemen is working with Travis regarding ideas for next year.
Book Fair: No report.
Book Giveaway: Ann is looking for more volunteers for Friday, May 15th.
Box Tops: No report.
Fundraising : Kathy proposed to moving the direct donation to Sept. rather than Oct.
Historian: No report.
Hospitality: No report.
Milk caps: No report.
Parent Network: No report.
Playground Maintenance: No report.
Publishing Center: No report.
Volunteer Coordinator: No report.
Soup Labels/Playground Equipment: No report.
Seroogys: Kathy suggested selling candy bars along with doing the spring sale.
Spring Carnival: No report.

Old Business:
Still working on making tables for Pod C and should be done by the end of the school year.
New Business:
Michael Fechter, CEO of Hansen Foods and Cindy Countney, Account Manager, are here from
Hansens to talk about fundraising. They provided samples of pizza and cookies and handed
out catalogs of the different fundraiser options.
Jennifer Gaecke stated she has been working on trying to fill open positions for PTO next year.
o Vice President Brianna Knox
o Secretary Possibly Kathy Schommer, but no commitment yet.
o Book Fair Melissa Arts and Jennifer Gaecke. Sara Gicius and Melissa Lynch
will also help.
o Box tops Kim Berg (Mrs. Hawkers class will be trimming the soup labels and
box tops for Kim to make it easier for sending them in.)
o Hospitality Jen Dubois will do next year, but will need someone the following
year.
o Crystal Moon - Milk caps
o Parent Network Sarah Brown and still looking for another chairperson to help.
There will be 2 events: science night and sledding during winter.
o Playground maintenance Jenn Kolokithas.
o Publishing center - Katie Cartwright and another volunteer.
o Volunteer coordinator - Kelly Leclair.

o Seroogys - possibly Alisha Gash. Kathy said the fundraising committee would be
able to help out as well.
Jennifer Gaecke talked about having a Parent Night for PTO to discuss and inform families
what the PTO does and the different opportunities to get involved. There was discussion on
having it somewhere else other than Forest Glen, possibly Townline as they have been
supporters of Forest Glen in the past. Jennifer will look at getting this organized in October of
2015.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m. The motion to adjourn was made by Kathy Schommer
and seconded by Jennifer Gaecke.
