I. FOW Meeting Refreshments: Donchelle Florence and Rashad Rhodes for Septembers breakfast goody spread, and Brandy Oeser and Tobin Yelland for tonights delicious snacks and drinks. III. Guest Speakers (Studio Teachers: Julia Gonzales & Jennifer Gutierrez-Morgan) A. Jennifer Gutierrez-Morgan (Studio Teacher for Kindergarten-2nd grade) 1. This is her first year at Walgrove, and she is excited to be here. 2. Her goal is for the students to build a strong and broad foundation of basic elements. a. Working with them to break down the world around us, asking what shapes do we see every day in things like buildings. b. Talked about how in kindergarten classes she played classical music while the kids used paper and pastels. Next week they will work on collages and mosaics to help in detaching from their work. 3. Studio is an opportunity for teachers to observe their students in a different way. 4. Thank you to kinder parent, Jason Sharman, who has been photographing the classes to provide Studio documentation. B. Julia Gonzales (Studio Teacher for 3rd-5th grade) told us about what grades 2-5 have recently done in Studio. 1. 2nd grade a. They had a treasure hunt, and students described the location of an item that they were asked to find. b. Worked on math by doing missing add-ins, math stories, diaramas, and acting out the math stories. c. Incorporated math and Latino Heritage by working on Mayan numerals. 2. 3rd and 4th grade did a marble run to work on teamwork. 3. 3rd grade is incorporating science into Studio by making atoms and molecules out of grapes, raisins, and toothpicks. 4. 4th grade did an activity called the Tragedy of the Common which integrates learning about science, democracy, and being part of a community.

5. 5th grade has also been focusing on science by doing controlled experiments and learning about weather by making barometers and anemometers. 6. Julia thanked parents for all the donations. She is really feeling supported. 7. There are still a few things needed, marbles being one of them. 8. Making a packet about Studio for publicity and potential donors. c. Making Studio a place where teachers can experiment, just as their students do. d. Developing a packet for new teachers to explain Studio. 10. Toni Vera-Martinez suggested holding a Parent Studio Night, and many parents agreed they would be very interested in such an event. IV. School/Instructional Reports- Principal's Report (Olivia Adams) A. Ms. Adams stressed how important fundraising is so we can continue to do all the things that FOW supports that set our school apart. 1. FOW is funding P.E., Differentiation, Small Groups, most instructional aides, the ALEX math program, PS Arts, Council, Studio. 2. The students' learning experience is so much richer for having all these things. 3. In February, Ms. Adams will be hosting a meeting for principals at our school, and she cannot wait to show them and talk about all the great things going on here. V. School Site Council (Sarah Reimers) A. All new reps this year- Andrew Lamond (Chairperson), Sarah Reimers (Vice Chairperson), Maria Gutierrez, Michelle Dean, and Laura Groppe. B. They want to support initiatives already taken at the school. C. They oversee the fiscal responsibility of the school and review what is and isn't working. VI. Officer Reports A. President (Julie Dair)- Flyer Distribution Update 1. We have already cut down a lot on the amount of fliers going out in the Wednesday packet. 2. We need to get more families' emails so we can send even more information via email. 3. Working on consolidating so that families with more then one child only receive one set of fliers, those who don't have email get all information, and Spanish speakers receive translated fliers. B. VP Fundraising (Brandy Oeser) 1. Whale of a Sale made about $6500. 2. We made over $20,000 from Ralphs last year. Doing another push to get people to sign up at the Ralphs in the Marina on October 28. 3. We have over $40,000 in pledges for the Annual Fund so far. About 30% of families have contributed. Need everyone to contribute any amount they can. 4. See's Candy and Innisbrook fundraiser starts on Wednesday. 5. Ms. Adams brought up the possibility of having a fundraiser where a company comes in and sells already prepared Emergency Bags and gives the school part of the profit. VII. Green Space Update (Ms. Adams) A. The district is not willing to remove the asphalt until we have our plan in place. B. We are trying to get a simplified plan for the $30,000 we do have. Some of these funds are set to expire if not used by the end of December. VIII. New Business A. The library needs parents to assist during classroom library times. Please contact Michelle

Dean if you are available. B. We are looking for a family to host a young kids movie night Walgroovy on December 1 and a boys movie night Walgroovy on December 15. Please contact Toni Vera-Martinez if you are able to host one of these. IX. Happenings A. Be More than Bare Bones Annual Fund Drive (All month in October) B. See's Candies/Innisbrook Sales Begin! (October 3-November 2) C. Movie Night: 10/5, 5pm-8pm, Auditorium (suggested donation: $2) D. Walgrove Bike-a-Thon: 10/13, 8am-1pm, Walgrove Campus E. Friendraiser: 10/13, 5pm-7pm, Oeser House F. Chuck E. Cheese Dine Out: 10/16, 3pm-8pm G. Ralph's Day: 10/28 H. Halloween Walgroovy at the Tasker Home: 10/27, 2pm-6pm ($15 per person) X.
