This source has many important pictures of many men who were not stated much in the
creation of the Sierra Club. The source was used to gather a picture and information. This
source helped me identify the unknown people who helped Muir create the Sierra Club
along with who took over.

Sequoia National Park, surrounded by trees. This was used to demonstrate how people
today still enjoy the parks that John Muir helped create almost a century ago.

Theodore Roosevelt, and several others standing together in front of a tree. This source
was used to show the importance of Roosevelt in protecting Yosemite Valley. During a
trip in Yosemite together, Muir told Roosevelt about his beliefs on the preservation of
land, which helped in convincing the president to sign a bill later that would make
Yosemite Valley a part of Yosemite National Park.

provisions he lived on while exploring, and how inspirational he was. This helped us
better understand Muir and how others saw him.

In this article, he talks extensively about the different sights in Yosemite, such as different
waterfalls and mountains. He also writes about his first time seeing Yosemite in the
beginning. This information is important because it shows how Muir viewed Yosemite
and his own thoughts.

for our project on Muirs personal views and his own thoughts and experiences.

was an article published in the Outlook magazine a few weeks after John Muirs death,
written by President Theodore Roosevelt as a tribute to Muir. He talks mainly about their
three-day camping trip together in Yosemite but also about who Muir was as a person,
describing him as good-willed and kind. This showed how other people might have
viewed Muir during his own time.

newspaper article. This source helped me create my project because it explained how

John Muir. N.p.: National Park Service, n.d. Print. This pamphlet was created by the National
Park Service. One part of the pamphlet is a timeline of his life in general, while another
part focuses on the time he spent as a fruit rancher on his in-laws ranch. This information
does not seem to be biased because it only lists dates and facts. This source was used in
the project to give us an idea of the major events in Muirs life.

provide insight on how other members thought of the Sierra Club.

an article that focuses on Muirs early life and how his life changed directions from
heading towards a successful industrial career to becoming a naturalist who dedicated his
time to preserving nature. It also discusses the Sierra Club and Muirs influence. This
helped us understand how Muir became involved with Yosemite.

book, Sally Tolan writes about John Muirs life. It focuses mostly on Muirs time in
Yosemite, discussing how he first became interested in the land and how he fought to
protect it from lumbering businesses and livestock owners, as well as how he began
writing to bring awareness to the destruction of nature, while also providing information
on his early and personal life. This source was used to get more details on Muirs time in
Yosemite, such as how he worked as a farmhand and his study of glaciers.
