The document discusses mixing in a static mixer. It notes that static mixers use stationary blades inside a pipe to mix fluids undergoing laminar flow, decreasing pressure losses. The document also references an animation that requires installing Adobe Flash player in Internet Explorer, and provides a link for downloading Flash player. It then explains that the simulation models mixing of a species throughout a fluid volume as it passes through three twisted blades with alternating rotations in a static mixer.

Mixing in a Static Mixer
In static mixers, a fluid
is pumped through a pipe containing stationary blades. This is particularly well suited for laminar flow mixing as it decreases the extent pressure losses in the flow regime. This model studies the mixing of a species from one side of the fluid volume to throughout the whole fluid volume as it passes three twisted blades of alternate rotations.
