and completely understood and so they are bet-
ter prepared to compete in the global economy

Activities Springboard Activities are an important part
of our balanced approach to after school pro-
gramming. The goal of Springboard Activi-
ties is to put back into schools some of those
essential activities that schools have had to
sacrifice in the wake of budget cuts and in
the face of accountability initiatives on the
federal level. Using Springboard’s philoso-
phy of hiring credentialed professionals that
are recognized for their expertise in their
field, we have sought to provide children
with an experience that is as good if not bet-
ter than what they can get outside in their
communities.

develop self-control and reslease energy in a fun, safe environment.

as simple machines with levers and axles. We will do paddle boat projects, sink and float experi-
ments, rockets, water wheels and pendulums, all while learning about physics.

This activity is designed to get our students to use the engineering and designing aspects of
their brains. We will do egg drops, bottle bottom racers, a glider challenge to test aerodynamics,
bridges and buildings out of found and recycled materials to better understand sound structure
and strong bases. This is a definite favorite, but gets the kids thinking like engineers. Problem
solving and team buildling are also a large component of this activity challenge!
Writing
Creative Writing Grades 3-6
Do you have a wild imagination? Do you sometimes find yourself drifting off to daydream during
class? Do you like a good story? We will learn about plot, character, setting, story arc, dedica-
tions, acknowledgements, various genres and much much more as we author our own books!

Comics Grades K-6

Similar to creating our own books, comics provides an avenue for the writer who loves storytell-
ing, but doesn’t like writing long narratives or as much prose as creative writing would entail. We
will create our own comic book characters, learn about the history of comic books and test our art
and writing skills at the same time.
***Springboard offers various activities throughout the school year, and creates an activity
list that is based upon availability and expertise of staff as well as the interests of teachers,
principals, parents and children. Please contact your Site Coordinator for a current Activity list.

Recreational Time Just as we believe academics and activities

are important to every after school day, we
also believe that children should have some
time to rest, to be kids, to have fun and play
games. While teachers and parents love aca-
demics, the children love recreational time.
This is part of what makes our model so
strong. During recreational time we provide
activities that would entice any child walking
through our doors!
