Dear Parents:
‘TO THE SCIENCE CENTRE!!!
This year in science, we have been studying the topic of cells and systems. Students
have researched on how a human body works with its many body systems and debated
which of the body systems was most important. They have also looked at how diseases,
disorders, and lifestyle choices have affected the overall health and well being of our
bodies. In addition, students have done a frog dissection to recognize the similarities
between the two organisms and to acknowledge the complexity of an organism (in
comparison to pictorial and diagrammatic representations they have encountered in
their research). Now we have the chance to take our students to see this complexity of
the human body.
On Tuesday, May 4" (8.3 & 8.4) or Thursday, May 6" (8.1 & 8.2), we are going to travel
to the Telus World of Science to view the Body Worlds exhibit. In addition to the
aforementioned learning activities (such as organ system concept maps, debate, etc.),
students have prepared for this trip by discussing the ethics and history of dissection. If
you would like to read more about the Body Worlds exhibit, you can find helpful
information at http://www.calgaryscience.ca/exhibits/exhibits/bodyworlds/.
Students will depart the Science School at 12:25 pm. Lunch will be eaten before we
leave. We will be paying for the admission to the exhibit but students can bring money
for souvenirs from the gift shop. We will be back at the school by 3:25.
In order to make this field trip happen, we need your support. We must have 2 parent
volunteers for each day to come with us to the show. Please email us as soon as
possible if you can chaperone. If we don’t have two volunteers we will have to cancel
the trip.
Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact either Mrs.
Rattai or Mr. Sonico.
Sincerely,
Kevin Sonico Heather Rattai
