Winder Commissioning Procedure

NOTE: This procedure is only an outline and is NOT to be used as a
replacement for good judgment and should NEVER be used to override
a company safety policy. Any questions should be referred to Belmont
Textile Machinery Company for clarification before going further.
1) Unload winder from container/truck. Ensure any lift trucks are lifting under steel beams and
not timbers. Place winder into location.
2) Level Winder per procedure in manual.
3) Reconnect Stack light and package lift (if applicable)
4) Disconnect supplied power (via customer supplied disconnect) and connect power to
Belmont Textile Machinery Company winder disconnect per supplied electrical drawing.
Ensure winder disconnect is in the off position.
5) Connect compressed air supply (80 psig) to winder.
6) Visually check drive train, doffing cams, winding and feed roll area to ensure no
obstructions exist.
7) Visually verify electrical panel is clear of loose papers or other problems.
8) Close all doors ensuring safety interlocks are maintained.
9) Reset all safety switches ensuring they are armed (in Safe position).
10) Carefully turn disconnect to on position. The winder is supplied with a phase relay to
ensure correct phasing of the equipment.
11) Follow maintenance/operations manual instructions to reset winder after powering up.
12) The winder should have electrical jumpers installed to ensure operation is possible. Run the
winder (following instructions in manual) to a set point and to stop.
13) Run the winder through a short doff. Occasionally adjustments are needed to the home
position of the winder. Section the Adjustment Procedures section of the manual may be
used to carefully adjust home position should that become necessary.
14) After winder runs and doffs (with no yarn), connect photoeyes from upstream equipment.
Connecting the speed photoeyes last ensures any difficulty encountered is a result of the
field wiring.
