The Journey Begins

Bookstore Open: Grab your books for the semester!

Grace Notes Choir (2nd-5th grade) meets in the Chapel at 6pm
Our Gift to You: Each family unit or single person in the
congregation will receive a Lenten devotional with 40 days of
reflection based on the book The Way. This is our gift to you - a way
to connect and go deeper into the series daily. Drop by the bookstore
table in the Connector. (Please note the devotional book will replace
the Growing Deeply Guide typically in the worship bulletin during
Lent).
New Series: Journey to Life: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus
Starting Feb. 14, many, but not all Growth Groups will be reading
and discussing The Way:Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus by Adam
Hamilton. The same themes will be highlighted in worship. To sign up
for a group, use one of these methods: bulletin tear-off, online at www.moumc.org/forms, or at
the Growth Group table in the Connector Sundays through Feb. 14.

New Worship Service at 10:30am

Beginning this Sunday, Feb. 14, the Missouri United Methodist

Church College-age Ministry (Ignite) is offering an additional service at 10:30am in the Chapel on Sunday mornings. We encourage
all students to "come as they are" and bring a friend to this time
of contemporary worship and teaching during the season of Lent.

Festival of Sharing Collection

on Feb. 21

On Sunday, Feb. 21, members of Vals Circle will be in

the Connector from approximately 8:50-12:10 collecting
monetary donations and kits for the Festival of Sharing.
We begin our 2016 year of collections with Womens Prison
Kits. The Festival of Sharing is highlighting this kit for
Annual Conference this year and is hoping that MUMC can
provide 100 kits. (Each woman in the womens prison must
be given a kit or no one can have a kit.) There is a change
in the contents of the kit from what is published in the
printed brochure. The kit will contain: 1 shampoo 12-16 oz
size. Must be alcohol free and transparent; 1 deodorant/
anti-perspirant 2-3 oz size, alcohol free, no roll-ns, no
mens brands; 1 tube toothpaste 6-6.4 oz alcohol free; one
4 oz or two 2 oz tube/s (not tub--small opening, not large)
of petroleum jelly, alcohol free, Vaseline or equivalent
type; 1 emery board. Please put kit in a one gallon ziplock
bag. We anticipate the value of these kits to be between
$7-8 but we gratefully accept any donation given. Please
note that paper and envelopes and toothbrushes are not
included this year. We thank everyone who contributes to
the Festival of Sharing kits.

PATCH Volunteers

Volunteers are needed in the Columbia area to drive

children to Chillicothe Correctional Center to visit their
mothers. It is a full day starting about 8 am and returning
around 4:30 or 5:00 pm. There are now 4 families that
have requested this service in central MO. To learn
more about PATCH(Parents and Their Children), visit the
website at http://www.chillicothepatch.org/. Visits are
coordinated with drivers by PATCH staff on dates that
work for the drivers. For more information you can
contact Terri Williams (twilliams003@centurytel.net) for
more information or for an application to be a volunteer.

Barnabas Ministry

Know of someone who needs a little encouragement?

Or has a joy to celebrate? The anonymous Barnabas
Ministry at Missouri UMC provides reminders that we
dont walk alone, but that God and a community of
faith walks with us as we share the joys and sorrows of
life. Please let Barnabas know of those who need a sign
of Gods presence by putting their name and contact
information into the Barnabas box outside of the church
office. Be sure to include a brief description of why they
need support at this time so that Barnabas can respond
appropriately.

Turning Point Volunteers

Turning Point is a program at Wilkes Methodist Church. Its

goals are to offer dignity and hope for those experiencing
homelessness. They offer showers, laundry, storage, a
mailing address, a cup of coffee and a smile to those in
need. Occasionally their clients need a ride to a doctors
appointment, court appearance, to the Greyhound bus
station in Midway, etc. If you can support this mission
please email Melissa Clarke at melisc53@aol.com.

Room at the Inn Winter Shelter

Help Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes, located at Wilkes Boulevard UMC, is a

ministry that provides a nutritious meal for the people of
our community. The impact of this ministry is far reaching,
as 100-120 meal servings are provided every night.
Missouri UMC forms teams to serve at Loaves and Fishes
the second Saturday of every month. These volunteers
help purchase, prepare and serve a warm meal, and are
encouraged to spend time getting to know the guests.
Contact Rev. Trista (trista@moumc.org) for ways that you
can be involved!

February 11, 2016 - Vol. 29, No. 6

Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for it is from your goodness that we have this day
to celebrate on the threshold of the Season of Lent.
Prepare us for tomorrow.
Tasting the fullness of what we have today,
let us experience some hunger tomorrow.
May our fasting make us more alert
and may it heighten our consciousness
so that we might be ready to hear your Word
and respond to your call.
In the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.
