Measuring Instruments
Caliper- use to measure thickness and distances.
Vernier
Caliper - linear
measuring
instrument
consisting of a
scaled rule with a
projecting arm at
one end, to which
is attached a sliding vernier with a projecting arm that forms a jaw with the other
projecting arm.

Inside
Caliper
- a caliper
whose legs
turn
outward so that it can accurately measure inside dimensions, as the inside diameter of a pipe.

Outside Caliper for measuring outside

dimensions

caliper - caliper for
measuring
outside
dimensions.

Steel protactor - a
measuring
instrument,
typically
made
of
transparent plastic or glass,
for measuring angles.

Squares

piece of wood. The square refers to the tool's primary use of measuring the accuracy of a right
angle (90 degrees)

Straight Edge - used

for testing whether something
else is straight.

Depth

Gauge -

fitted to a drill bit to

ensure that the hole
drilled does not exceed
the required depth.

Thickness Gauge
- Commonly used steel
sheet metal ranges from
30gauge to about 7
gauge.

Radius

Gauge

used to measure
radius of an object.

the

Screw Pitch Gauge used to convert between

rotational
and
linear
movement or force.

Dial Indicator used especially to

check the tolerance of
machined parts.

Micrometer - for
measuring very small
distances, objects, or
angles, especially one
based on the rotation of
a finely threaded screw.

Feeler Gauge
- used to measure
gap
width
or
clearance between
surface
and
bearings.
Bridge

gauge:

Bridge gauges are used

to measure the amount
of wear of Main engine

bearing. Normally the upper bearing keep is removed and clearance is measured with respect to
journal. Feeler gauge can be used to complete the process.
