Problem Statement
Our objective was to design a truss based on tests and research
that performs better than test trusses. Our truss is evaluated over
our quality and efficiency. In this project we have certain
constraints; we must only use balsa wood, paper, and glue. Our
paper gussets must not be larger than our original gussets. Our
truss must span greater than 7 inches and have a height of less
than 5 inches. We must also only use 36 inches of wood and no
more.

Test Truss

When we tested our truss, the truss broke at two different places.
One in the left corner and one on the left angular line. The first
break, at the angle, broke at a force of 39 pounds, making 39
pounds the maximum of force our trust could sustain. I assume
that the break was caused because of a cut in the wood or
uneven gluing.

I learned that, when trying to sustain the maximum force, include

the position of the beams and the position of the adhesive glue. I
also learned where the truss sustains most of the force,
concluding areas that need to be fixed.

Research Results
When looking for different sources and researching on different
trusses, I came upon to trusses that seemed as if they were
strong and durable trusses. Including those, they also seemed as
if they were easy to create and required less effort, but still could
withstand a strong amount of force.
