Theconceptsofconservationandecologycanbedescriptiveofvarioustypesofartand
media.Visualcultureisatopicthatmanyartistshavediscussedandexpandedbecauseofits
rapidgrowthandpopularityintodaysmedia.Withprintmedia,magazinesandadvertisements,
visualculturehasbeenawaytoanalysethemeaningsbehindcommercialimagery(Hurwitz&
Day,2007).Everyoneinterpretsvisualculturedifferentlywhichisthendecoded,unravelingthe
truemessage.Denotationsandconnotationsaretermsusedtodefinewhatweliterallyseeina
pictureversusthethingsweareseeingandwhattheysuggestorimply(Barrett,2003).Thisidea
ofvisualculturerelatestotheconceptsofconservationandecologybecauseitdisplaystheuse
ofdailyinterpretationoftheworldaroundandtheuseofitsmeans.
Interpretingvisualcultureisanimportantconceptforstudentstolearnintheclassroom.
Withtheunderstandingandanalysisofdifferentformsofmedia,studentswillbeableto
understandtheprintmediaandculturearoundthem.Studentsareexposedtomanytypesof
commercialimagerywhichcanbeveryinfluential.Ifstudentsareexposedtothisdecoding,they
willlearnthetoolstounderstandanddecipherthemessagebehindtheimagesorobjects(Barrett,
2003).Visualcultureshouldbeexplainedintheclassroomtohelpencouragestudentstothink
deeperintowhatmediameansandhowtheyinterpretthatmediaintheireverydaylives.
